Need help getting back into Traveling

Published

I was a traveler for 10 years and then spent 7 years doing sales. For the last six months, I've worked in the PACU at an ambulatory plastic surgery center. Are there are any agencies who will work with me? So far, they are all sticklers and are not budging on me not being in a hospital, despite my lengthy previous experience. I am doomed to go back on staff somewhere before traveling again?

Six months certainly counts as recent experience. Get two written references from that facility (they will make you far more valuable to any agency) and do some more shopping around. Consider going back to a previous facilities you worked as staff as a traveler (call them, ask them if there is a need, and which agencies they use). Mind you, acute care hospitals where most PACU jobs are may be reluctant to use you without recent acute care - your patients are easy and routine. You are not doing any overnight ICU holds. So going staff might turn out to be your best option.

Very few assignments for ambulatory PACUs. I would not trust you in a inpatient hospital setting either. Are you really ready to get an ICU post op patient after doing plastic surgery ambulatory center work?
