Need help finding money to pay off LPN..

Published

Hi all! I am a recent Practical Nursing grad. I went to a diploma program that has not yet received the go ahead for federal grants and loans. I received most of the cost of the program through a displaced worker's grant but I am still short a few thousand dollars. I am not eligible for a private loan. Are there any programs that might be able to help? I reside in Ohio. Any suggestions, advice would be most appreciated:)

Look in your hometown hospitals to see if any give residents (or former residents) scholarships. Look on your high school website and see if there if any scholarships for alumni of the school.

It is odd that they let you go through the program without paying in full first, or by a certain date. Can you ask the school itself if they have an assistance? Do make sure that the school is accredited for you to sit for the NCLEX-PN, as I have not heard of any accredited LPN school that doesn't take federal funds/loans. Did you fill out a FAFSA?

If you are currently working, then see if your job has tuition reimbursement. Also, if you have state aid, unemloyment or anything like this, there are some funding sources for "welfare to work". Ask at your local welfare and/or unemployment office.

Finally, as another option, if you are active in a church, they often have some funding available. I would ask whatever charitable group of your church if you could apply for the funds you need.

With all this, even a Pell Grant could help.

The school is accredited, I check the Board of Nursing before I attended. It's is private pay, millitary, and displaced workers that currently fund the student's tuition. Pell grant is under federal aid and is not currently accepted. Thanks for your input.

Try WIA. Workforce investment act. It's federal funding. Google it plus the name of your state to get a list of offices that disburse funds.

There are Also sallie Mae private loans many of my classmates used.
