Need help finalizing my RN-BSN school decision!

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hey everyone! Just needing constructive criticism about University of Phoenix RN-BSN online program. I know it's uber-expensive compared to other online colleges, but for someone who needs structured learning, would this be a good choice? Aside from pricing, what are the pros and cons of UOP? All comments greatly appreciated :)

Since I have a visceral dislike of online group projects, I would never enroll in any of University of Phoenix's programs. There's a wise saying: your group is only as good as its weakest member.

In addition, why pay nearly $600 per credit hour when there are many programs that cost less than $300 per credit? It makes no sense to pay twice as much for a brand name that has come under scrutiny in recent years.

I am in the process of looking for online RN to BSN schools as well. I am not familiar with University of Phoenix's program, even though I have heard of the school. There are many concerns I have and they are: is the school accredited; are they recognized by potential employers; are they recognized by other schools (in case you are looking to further your degree in the future)? I went to a nursing career fair over a year ago. One nurse approached me to ask what school I attended. She warned me to not go to an online school that is strictly online. She is on the hiring committee and her place of employment do not recognize certain schools as proper or thorough education. Some things you may have to consider if you are seriously thinking about Phoenix or other online schools.

To be fair, credits earned at the University of Phoenix will transfer because the school has institutional regional accreditation and all of its nursing programs are nationally accredited by the CCNE.

However, my question remains unchanged: why pay nearly $600 per credit hour for a degree from University of Phoenix when multiple affordable options are priced at less than $300 per credit? University of Phoenix's brand name has come under negative fire in recent years due to offering grossly overpriced educational products in which profits come before students.

I also dislike group projects and am trying to decide on an RN to BSN online school. Heard doesn't have group projects. Heard of any others or have any other advice? Thank you!
