I have got a HUGE problem, I have to take an exit exam(HESI) to graduate, I took it last week and failed-the problem- management and delegation, mainly delegation questions, had I gotten them right I would've passed.

I have a pile of books on the subject, but feel that I'm still not getting the BIG picture. I know that it varies state by state, I have memorized the general rules of what can and cant be delegated, but when I look at the options for the questions I draw a blank. Do I look at the disease or the person the task is being delegated to? when the 4 options include different staff members, and different dieases, what should I focus on? The answers never include something that can be ruled out easily, like blood administration or patient teaching. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

If I remember correctly the delegation questions focused on what duties the different staff (LPN/RN/CNT) were legally able to do. i.e. you can send a CNT to get vitals on a routine post-op w/o any known complications where you would send an LPN to get vitals on a post-op with possible complications because the LPN is legally able to make a nursing judgement and phone a physician for orders. Good Luck. Delegation can be very tricky!
