I sent in my application today to my #1 nursing school choice (Kennesaw). It is really MUCH MORE convenient to me than my 2nd choice (GPC) which has already accepted me. For one, we are soon going to be about 30 minutes away from Kennesaw whereas due to distance and traffic we will be 1 1/2-2 hours away in one direction from GPC. Second of all, Kennesaw is a Bachelor degree whereas GPC is an Associate and I will graduate at essentially the same time so I might as well do the Bachelor degree.
Here is my dillema:
I just found out that I will not get an acceptance (or rejection) letter from Kennesaw until I am already 1 week into classes at GPC. If I go on to GPC and then get an acceptance from Kennesaw it will be too late for me to drop/add the classes, I will have to withdraw and lose like $1000 not including the money I will have spent for GPC nursing uniforms (which are specific to the school) and all of the books I will then have to sell back b/c the 2 schools have a totally different book list. AND by me leaving 1 week into the semester I leave my spot open too late for it to be filled by another nursing student.
SOOOOO............ Should I gamble and toss my GPC acceptance and just reapply for the fall IF I don't get in at Kennesaw? OR should I accept the spot at GPC and go and just drop out IF I get in at Kennesaw? The commute time and degree differences are so major that if I got in at Kennesaw I would not want to continue at GPC since I would have only put one week into the program so staying at GPC at that point wouldn't happen.
It is a complete gamble b/c I am borderline with my grades (Kennesaw's standards) and it really could go either way. If I turn down GPC I think I would still get in the following fall, I don't think they would hold any harsh feelings towards me or anything like that. I think I would get in again. The drawback being if I reject my GPC January admission acceptance and then I DON'T get in at Kennesaw .... I will have to reapply for GPC for the fall- and then I've missed 8 months which is almost half of the length of the program. This is a big deal b/c my husband is in the housing industry and his company recently went under. I need to graduate as quickly as possible!
I am sorry this is long and wordy. I really do appreciate it if anyone makes it through this and can offer me some advice.

Personally, I would never pass up a definite "yes" or acceptance into nursing school. I say go with GPC since you are already in because there is no guarantee that KSU is going to accept you.
I think you are completely right. I've spoken to a lot of people about this and they all said the same. There is no guarantee I would get in again and then I could be left holding the bag with no where to go!
Exactly, so go on ahead, gear up and get ready for GPC's nursing program. I would hate for you to wait around and not get in with KSU or GPC again. That would really suck. You know acceptances into nursing schools are REALLY hard to come by these days! You as well as the rest of us that have been accepted should be proud!! We made it in!!!
Thank you! GL to you, too! Which program did you get into and when do you start?
I got into Gordon College waaaaaaay out in Barnesville GA. It's gonna be about an hour commute for me since I'm in Lithonia GA. I start in about 2 weeks..Aug 17th...getting kinda nervous:sofahider
That's awesome! GL!

:yeah:congrats on getting in! jmho but i would never turn down a sure thing, and you have been accepted at gpc, i would not throw that out. you can always go the bsn route another time. good luck with your decision. it's so hard to get accepted at any school, i just wouldn't take the chance.

Just out of curiosity - why does KSU send out letters so late?
I have no idea! It is really stressing me out. I have a class I needed to take in the spring if I got in at Kennesaw. But b/c I will not know until too late to take it I'll have to take it this fall with an already busy schedule. What's worse, the class is full. So I am trying to get into it. It is frustrating.
Yeah...I can relate...KSU put me on a waiting list. I got this notification at the very last min too. I'm just glad I applied to 50 trillion nursing programs LOL....and did not depend on KSU
What did you end up doing? Did you get in to KSU? Did you go there or somewhere else?
