Hi so I'm new. I need some advice for the state of pa. 2.5 years ago I got a dui and some other charges. I ended up doing treatment court in my county. I stopped nursing in my own in 2013 due to I knew I was not fit to be a nurse. I did not renew my license in 2014. On prior renewals I had lied about questions. I did a voluntary surrender of my license in 2016 even though it was inactive. My lawyer is wanting to petition to see if they would be willing to go back to 2014 to as my surrender date. I would like some recommendations from people that have been through something similar. I have documented treatment 90 inpatient and successfully completed all outpatient treatment as well no dirty urines in 3 years. Please no bashing I'm trying to get my life back on track. I have letters of recommendation from my probation officer as well as treatment counselors and fellow nurses and others around 5 I believe. I'm also due to be released from probation early in June. I have suffered a stroke minor thabk god and a head on car crash breaking 7 bones in my body. Any help would greatly be appreciated. Thanks so much.

First, congratulations on your recovery and a sincere wish that everything works out.
I'm in a nurse support group with a lady who surrendered her nursing license then decided to try to get it back. Its possible but not easy. They assigned her to the disciplinary program and then had her do the full ride in PNAP. Total time = 6 years. Do yourself a favor & get a lawyer. She's making it but has been through quite a bit and I hope an easier way for you
Thanks yes I'm getting a lawyer. I already did the treatment court route which consisted of inpatient and outpatient and counseling and meetings and extreme supervision. I got through with no sanctions. Thanks for the encouragement.
I wish you well. I also wish that the folks in the BON and monitoring would remember that we are nurses but we are also human. We all make mistakes and have problems and we shouldn't be publically lashed for them. Especially when that nurse (like you) has done things to address those issues. Good luck to you!!!
Thank you. I don't know if I'm eadtinf my time and money on this j hope not. With all the public supporting recovery you would think the bon would.be the same way. We are human not God. I have had people tell me not to waste my time once you mesd up its impossible to get back and they are always watching you. And finding a job is next to impossible.

Unfortunately your court monitoring probably won't count towards the BON-enforced monitoring so you'll have another 5 years of UAs and AA meetings and license stipulations. But hopefully it'll help convince the BON to let you reinstate your license with monitoring. Good luck!:)
I'm ok with aa meetings and random urines. I just alrewady did all the iop and counseling. I was hoping someone that went through a voluntary surrender had success in getting reinstated . Is there hope for this? And is there ever and end?
There is hope!!!! A nurse in my support group is doing it. No easy road but it can be done

Rooting for you! I'm guessing they will reinstate. This country still has a long way to go, but it's come farther that I would've ever believed possible.
