Need your feedback about UMC in Tucson

Published

I am planning to work in UMC. And I want to get more ideas about working there. Would you really recommend UMC to nurses who wish to work in Arizona? What is the starting salary there? Tell me more about your experiences working in UMC. Thanks!!!

I'm a traveler working at UMC right now. My experiences have been pretty good there. They really stick to their 1:4 ratio, and usually have plenty of techs staffed. All of the floors except the ICUs use all computer charting and order entry. I can't tell you anything about benefits since I'm a traveler. Sorry I can't tell you about staff salary, I don't know what it is.

That was very interesting. It seems that I will be considering to sign the contract with UMC soon.

Is there any other feedback would you like to post? Do you see any disadvantage in working there? Are the staffs very supportive?

Thanks a lot!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've found the staff to be very supportive most of the time. The core staff there seems very used to working with travelers and agency staff. The only thing that was difficult for me to get used to was the fact that it is a teaching hospital, and practically run by residents! I haven't noticed any disadvantages, I've learned a great deal there!

So, what is the main difference between a teaching hospital and a non-teaching hospitall? Do you think it would be easier to work in a non-teaching hospital? Based on your experience, what can you say about working in those hospitals?

Teaching hospitals are great! I feel like I have more imput on my pts because the residents aren't jerks yet!

ROLF!!!! How true about residents!! I've worked at both kinds, and they both have advantages and disadvantages. The nice thing about working nights at a hospital full of residents is that you never have to worry about waking someone up with a phone call. Just about everybody you have to talk to is somewhere in the hospital. I've found that you do end up having to fix a few more glitches because residents are still learning, and sometimes order very strange things. But, most of them are very nice.

Hope you can post more feedback about UNIVERSITY MEDICAL CENTER in TUCSON. Thanks!!!!

There aren't a lot of people from Tucson on these boards! But, it seems like what is already listed should suffice. Big teaching hospital with 4:1 ratios. What else is there???

Hi, I am in Tucson too. I am about to start at NAUs Nursing program affiliated with TMC. I have heard good things about it and I am eager to get going with the program. I will let you know what I think by semester's end.
