Need Book Info ASAP!

Hi, all:

I am copying my post below from the South Carolina forum to this one hoping there are some SC Midlands Tech students out here that can give me a heads up:

Hello, All:

I will be starting Clinicals at Midlands Tech this upcoming January '09, and I do not have enough money to buy every book and piece of equipment on my list.

Could someone please tell me, off of the NUR101 booklist, which books I will be using as soon as the class starts??? I am going to have to buy my supplies and books over the first 2 months as my work checks come in and I do not have $800-$1,000 to put down on day one.

Also, do I need to get a uniform now, or is that something that can wait a couple of weeks or so?

Lastly, can anyone give me an idea of what exactly in done in NUR101, and what supplies besides the obvious notebooks, notecards, pens, etc. that I will need on the first day of class?

Also, any study and organizational tips would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Is it possible for you to call your school and ask them? Explain your situation and some schools even offer assistance.

And .... our school has access to huge libraries (hospitals) and I know a couple students who check out their books for a couple weeks til they get money or even check it out, return it for a day and recheck it out. It's risky (in hoping it's checked in) but it's doable (at least in the one case I know of).

Hope it helps - I'm a single parent with $$ issues too and had to order items in pieces. Also - about your books --- I got one of mine off Craigslist from a different city and saved over $110 on that book alone!

Good luck!

I don't go to your school but...

Do you have any friends that are in your program and bought the books? I know that in my program, one publisher that we use gives full-text on-line access with their books ( there is a code in the front cover) I know of a couple people that bought the book and had no interest in viewing the book on-line so but had a friend that did or was willing to because they could not afford the book, so intead of buying the book they just view it on-line thanks to their friends access code.

Check and see what student organizations your new school has. Organizations such as Student Nursing Associations and the like. They may have some books, uniforms that graduating students have donated for people just like you! Worth a shot.
