Not to sound callous but if you can handle two toddlers, why can't your husband? Did he not assist in their creation? My husband spent 9 years in the military so I know it can be tough. However, you two should be able to work together to deal with this. At one time, my husband worked full time second shift and was in college during the day. I worked during the day so when he wasn't at school, he took care of our 5, yes five, kids. They were either at school or at daycare when he was at school. I took over kid duty after work for the rest of the night. On top of that, our youngest a lot of asthma issues (I did a lot of college homework in ER's with her).

Our kids are mostly grown now. I look back and see that it was hard on both of us but the 7 of us survived it. At 40 I decided to go back to school to become a nurse. My hubby stepped up again and offered to work longer hours in order for me not have to work while in school full time. I just finished my PN program and will start an ADN program soon. I will work during the ADN program to relieve him though. It won't be easy but if you work together, it can be done... Good luck...

Great for you, you did it or you both did it with "5" kids. "Everyone's situation is different".And YES he did assist in there creation, most people say that he did it all by himself(JOKE) since they both look just like him. Maybe i am just a little to sensitive. Thanks for your story/input.

The intent certainly wasn't to offend you or hurt your feelings and I do apologize if I did so. I'm probably just a few years older and have already lived through the 'school of hard knocks' so I know things can be done when we want them badly enough.

The comment about your husband creating your kids too just came from my belief that both parents should be equally responsible for all aspects of rearing children. I was a single parent for a long time as was my husband. Fortunately, my ex was and is a great dad and has always maintained a close relationship with our kids. I've raised my husband's kids and his ex has had nothing to do with them. Don't get me wrong, I love them, but resent her for ignoring them.

I say go for it. There were many in my program with small children. Just set your mind to it and you can do it.

I can't speak for the base daycare centers, but I probably would talk with your husband. My father is 77 (very able bodied) and taking care of my 2-year old (though I am trying to find an alternative b/c it's not that he can't take care of her, he just would prefer not to and at 77 he shouldn't)

Your kids should be going to bed around 7:30 or 8:00, or you can change their schedule where they will...if night classes start around 6:00..that only leaves him taking care of the kids for a couple of hours.

I would do this: Tell him point blank, if he can handle battling the enemy, he can handle a couple of toddlers, and I wouldn't present it as an option as long as BOTH of you are in agreement on your school.

My grandma raised 7 kids, 5 boys, 2 girls...every son she had knew how to mend clothes, cook a full meal, and take care of babies b/c there wasn't enough daughters to do it all.

Here is my story. I have been living in Norfolk, Virginia for almost 3 years. I am a stay at home mom, with 2 kids a 3yr old and a 1year old. I need help/advice. Here is the thing, i would realy like to start taking class for either LPN or RN. But... There is always a but, I would have to put my kids in daycare, does anyone know of any inexpensive daycares, or programs that i could get into that would help out with daycare. It is pretty hard when you have no family here. If there is anyone out there that has been though my situation please reply or anyone that has any advice on what to do please reply. I just need help with the daycare and would really like to start going to school. My hubby is in the Navy so if we were to do the night school thing it would be great but he just couldn't handle two toddlers. If anyone knows about how the daycare for the Navy works. How much do we have to pay. A babysitter these days are expensive i remember when it was like 10 and 15 dollars here, now it is like 40dollars for a couple of hours and that is just for one kid. Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Sailorwife22, I think I know what you mean by your husband not being able to handle the two kids. I never wanted to put responsibility on my other half as far as the kids went. I wanted to go to nursing school to further myself. So I looked as it as something I wanted for me and didn't want someone else to feel obligated to pick up where I was leaving off. True, your husband did help in the creation of your children but you may be like me and know that your husband may be really tired and short fused at the end of the day and not able to look after kids like they should be. Most every state offers childcare assistance depending on the amount of money you bring in monthly. I know from experience with a hubby in the Navy funds aren't that significant. Check with your local food stamp office. Most of the time those services are offered there. I say go after what you want....good luck!
