Need advice about starting a career in nursing

Published

Hello. I am almost done with my BA in Social Science (psychology and sociology). I am a non traditional student ... I work full time, family the whole nine yards. I want to go into a field where I can help people and feel I can make a difference; I feel nursing would be a good fit. Can someone please tell me the ups and downs and give advice on where to find information on non traditional programs (I am located in NE Ohio). Where a good place to start would be (LPN, RN, etc.). ANY information would be helpful.

Thank you!

I suggest RN you could possibly do some sort of RN to BSN bridge instead of an Associate degree. Just start checking out schools in your area. As far as ups and downs, it can be high stress sometimes depending on the area, but it can also be great and rewarding. Just go for it.

You might also find a second-degree program in your area with a direct entry- to-practice BSN. They give you credit for your prior bachelor's degree and you can complete a BSN in 16 months to 2 years, depending on the program. They all seem to work a bit differently.

I would check for those programs too. Of course, if you have little ones, a ADN would probably give you more flexibility.

I agree - GO FOR IT before the opportunity and the energy pass you by!
