Need advice question regarding boss

Published

I work at a long term care facility. I have been there 5+ years. I have a good work record. I started there as a CNA, Worked my way to LPN, then worked up to RN. I have worked all shifts, worked holidays, doubles whenever they needed me to with no question. After getting my RN we had a position come up in the facility as MDS coordinator. I was excited to try something new and applied for the position. The Executive Director had to approve who got the position and she gave it to me, I was told she said if I wanted it there was no use taking someone out of house for the new position. She was very friendly with me and I thought we had a good boss-employee relationship. I accepted the position with a 90 day probation period to see if I liked the position and it fit then I would receive the MDS coordinator pay raise. I was told this in January. Due to our shortage of nursing, I had to work the floor in between also training to be the MDS coordinator. After 90 days I did not receive a pay raise. I went to my ED and asked about the raise, she told me she did not hear anything from the company board regarding an approval and that she would keep me posted. I let it go for 3 more months. This was 3 months of being only in the MDS office not having to work the floor. She told me she had been very busy and would work with HR on it and get it fixed. I went to my HR guy trying to find out the amount because I didn't want to bother my ED again, I felt like I was bothering her since she stated she was so busy. My HR guy told me he had took the raise to be signed off on to the ED and she said she was tired of hearing about it. That it had been approved but since she wouldn't sign off on it, I wouldn't be getting it. So I went back to her and asked her about the pay raise only to be told that she still did not have any information on it that she would have to email someone and get back to me. A day later I was called into my DON office and was told that my ED was very upset with me for coming to her about this raise and that if I did not let this go or if I tried to go above her head in any way she would fire me. I was devastated. I was more hurt over the fact that I was threatened to be fired over asking about a raise. After this my ED has been directly putting me on the spot in our morning meetings, asking me to do tedious tasks on the floor for her, and told me I was only being allowed to stay in our MDS office due to us having a new software system. I was baffled. She gave me the position. How would you handle the situation? or what should i do? I"m considering leaving the position and facility all together.

Unfortunately, loyalty to a company doesn't count for as much as it used to. Now that you have training in this area, you could look for a position in another company, but I wouldn't stay with this person she sounds too flakey.

Look for a new position immediately. They are taking advantage of you. When you find a new position, give notice and do not allow them to persuade you to reconsider.

In your notice, specifically spell out your reasin for leaving: "promised but not delivered."
