Hi,
I was wondering if the agency or pool nurses out there could offer me some advice on how to prepare when you get to the facility.
How do you organize your day and adjust to not knowing the residents? I am not going to be agency, but I am starting a new job as a per diem float in a large LTC facility. I have done long term care for many years, but in one small facility. I am nervous, but I need to make this switch. Any advice would be great!

Ask for a facility/floor orientation. I've made a notebook with all the crucial info in it and every pool nurse is asked to review it. It contains our fire emergency policy, abuse policy and numbers to call in an emergency. My best advice...find a nurse's aide who knows the residents and who can help you out.
Thats a great idea. I just know there is so much you need to know about these residents and it is very scarey to just walk in and go. I don't know how the agency nurses do it!
