Just passed the NCLEX last week!! waHOO!! yes I feel like I am still on top of the world BUT I kind of have a dilemma because I want so badly to start applying for jobs (I didn't apply before NCLEX because I was so unsure of myself if I would even pass the first time!), but my probelm is, I will be going overseas (3 weeks) for my little sister's wedding in December.
I am thinking that if I start applying now, and if I get interviews or job offers (maybe in a perfect just-passed nclex world? ) then it would just ruin my status when I leave for 3 weeks in the middle of being a newly-hired nurse right?
However at the same time, I want to work somewhere (3 months is a lot of time doing nothing :anbd:) instead of waiting until after the trip to apply.
Please help I dunno what to do next!

based on my experience with this job market APPLY NOW! if things progress to the point you are offered a position or the discussion comes up about any extenuating circumstances to your employment, then is the time to bring up sis' wedding. last year i went from may-september before landing a job... just my advice, do what you will. Welcome to nursing!

I agree with the previous poster. Apply now! It can take that long to just get through the screening phase. Also, there are TONS of new grad programs that start in January, but are accepting applications now. Don't wait. If it comes down to it, and a hospital doesn't offer you a job because of this one-time commitment that was in place before you were hired, and is an extremely important day for your family member - do you really want to work for a place like that anyways??

I would apply now btw CONGRATS!!!! I am also a new grad, currently worked in a big hospital in my valley and still cant land a job. It will be exactly one month 2morr for me as an jobless RN. It is tough to get a RN job now, I even started my BSN and will be doing my ACLS class in 2 weeks.
Apply and if you get a call for an interview tell them the truth or say you have family business and cant come in for an interview til x date and you would loved for the chance to be interview for the position.
good luck to you.

Apply NOW !!! Do not reveal your plans until AFTER you have a job offer, and then tell them about your plans. Do you REALLY need 3 weeks off? December is a difficult time to take 3 weeks off.
Best wishes!

hi hello.. Congratulations for having your US-RN license and for your little sister's up coming wedding ceremony. :)
i think i wont be of help to you but i am just hoping you could help me or somebody out there.
i wanted to do the NCLEX review but I dont know any trusted or recommended review center. i am not sure, i have a plan too of doing it as self review as long as I have good review materials or guide , as I did when i took the local board last 2008.
hoping for your thought about this.
Thank you and God bless you abundantly with love and peace. :-)
Thanks for all your advice!! :tku: I really appreciate it!
merlee: I already have my plane ticket because this trip has already been in the works since the wedding date was set. That's why I decided to post here (I was too confused LOL ! )what the other nurses have to say in this situation, to get me started on what to do next.
jamineRN: I used Saunder's 5th ed for content, did all the practice questions after each chapter, including the CD. I also practiced on Incredibly Easy 6 Comprehensive Tests. Did some practice questions on Mosby's Comprehensive review 19th ed (there might be a newer version, not totally sure) I didn't do a review class, too expensive LOL. Good luck to you!
