Need some advice on nursing programs in the central valley

Published

I am having a hard time finding classes in order to get into the nursing program anywhere. I went to CSU Fresno straight out of high school and knocked out the majority of my prereqs, but unfortunately life happened and I couldn't maintain a high enough GPA working full time so I had to move to Fresno City College, it is so crowded! I only need my basic biology, basic chem, Anatomy, Physiology, and Microbiology in order to be finished with the prerequisites.

Pretty much I just don't know where I will be doing my actual nursing program and I want advice on which programs are the best and which ones you don't have to wait as long for... I would love to go back to CSU Fresno but I just can't handle it with a full time job. So any info on SJVC, National, Fresno City, College of the sequoias, etc..Would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks so much =-)

I'm on the same boat :uhoh21:

Im at West Hills taking my pre reqs and since the deadline for COS Nursing in the Fall of 2011 is this July, I have to Micro, Physiology and Anatomy all at the same time!

Im having so much trouble trying to find a program here in the central valley. I was looking at SJVC since they are private and don't have a waiting list, but they are TOO expensive for just an Associate Degree.

Please let me know any info you find!!

Nursing programs are hard to get into as it is. My advice is just to get your pre-reqs out of the way and apply anywhere and everywhere. I took all pre-req classes (Nursing pre-reqs) at West Hills College in Lemoore and was prepared to apply wherever (CSU, Fresno, COS, Fresno City ect.) but fortunately got accepted into CSU, Bakersfield's nursing program right as I finished up my classes.

I know wait lists and all that seems like a long process and it is but once you get into a nursing program time really speeds up! I graduated from my nursing program in 2009 and I've been a nurse now for almost 2 years.

It is quite the process and it seems endless but don't give up! If nursing is what you really want to do its totally worth it in the end. Sorry if I didn't really answer your question cause I think in the end just getting into any nursing program is the most important part! Good luck and best wishes!

I went to school in 2003, but at that time my scool in Stockton was doing the lottery. I applied to CSU Stanislaus in Turlock because it was close. I researched other schools where cost of living was affordable and the program wasn't too impacted. I applied to CSU Humbolt for those reasons. I got in to both. Try Humbolt.

I feel like everyone forgets that Porterville College has an RN program. I did their LVN program and the LVN-RN bridge program. Got into both on my first try. Never had a problem getting into classes. In fact I graduated the LVN program, took microbiology (the only class I was missing for the RN program) the following semester, applied the semester after that and was in the bridge program within a year of graduating the LVN program.
