Hi, I was wanting advice about what to do.
I am graduating very soon, pregnant, and possibly moving in January. I have 3 months to work before I give birth and I would like to work in L&D or PP or nursery. But I cannot make any commitments since we are probably moving. I don't want to go back to work for at least 3 months after delivery either. I know I am being extremely flexible here
Am I a 'lost cause'?!? :uhoh21:
What would you experienced nurses do?

YOU are being flexible? Really, it sounds as if you are asking that of a potential employer more than yourself. You are due to deliver in 3 months, you will then want to be off for 3 months afterward, only to be possibly moving in less than 9. It's gonna be hard to find a job with your situation, unfortunately.
I don't think most managers will want to invest the time/money to train you, get you going on OB only to see take the time off you will need for maternity leave and possibly moving . No, you don't have to share you may move, but do you think it's really fair to do this right now? OB is not learned overnight. You will need several months of fulltime work to orient to the unit alone, before you are on the floor on your own. Doing this part-time, you are possibly looking at a year before they can count you in staffing as an independent nurse.
I don't mean to discourage you, we need good new nurses in OB! But I think you will find it hard to find a job in a specialized area like OB with all you have going on. Is there any way you can at least wait til the baby gets here? OR wait til you know where you will live come January? I think it would be easier for you if you did.

No matter which area that you are going to work in, you will be orientation for those first three months. Which means the hospital is paying you a salary but you don't count in the numbers. The hospital is investing in you by training you to work for them. If you guaranteed that you would be back after the baby was born, and six weeks later, not three months, perhaps someone would consider. But then, you think that you will be moving in January?
So you want them to train you for three months and then you will be gone?
Don't think you will find anyplace to hire you under those conditions, especially labor and delivery........................ :uhoh21:
I figured I was being inflexible. I suppose I should wait until we move. I just didn't want to forget everything I have learned and sit around at home without a job. And I'm really excited to start working in OB, I loved my clinical rotation, it was fabulous.
