Need advice on IV drug adminisntration

Published

Hello, My wife is seeing a Lymes specialist who just put her on 90 day IV antibiotics, however the specialists office is a 2 hour commute one way. How do we go about finding someone locally to adminster it on a daily?

As most of you know there are different schools of thought in treating Lymes. Or local immunologist doesn't seem to have the same approach to the treatment of the specialist we're using, so we wouldn't expect his office to be comfortable administering the IV. What are our options? How do we go about finding the right person to administer? Is there a service we could use?

Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

I would contact the office of the physician who ordered the IV antibiotic and see if someone there can connect you with a visiting nurses service, hospital or clinic in your area that can give the antibiotic on an outpatient basis. Because the antibiotic is a prescription drug, the nursing service or clinic will need to have the prescription from the doctor before the antibiotic can be given. You could also contact your primary care provider for the same, as hopefully, the two are communicating. I'm more than a little surprised that you were not given this kind of information needed for your follow up care at the time the prescription for the intravenous antibiotic was ordered for you. Good luck!
