Need some advice for a (hopefully) soon-to-be-lpn student

Published

There is an accelerated LPN program that I found that is not to far from me that I would love to get into. The thing is- I must test into it. There are 3 different test dates. Mine is Nov. 2nd. The entrance exam is covering Math, Science, & Reading.

I know a lot of people say that you cannot study for tests like this, but I think they're wrong. I would like to brush up on my Math and Science- just to refresh my memory considering I have been out of school for, what's going on 4 years. But I haven't the slightest clue where to start. I need to take this course. I would LOVE to take this course. I will spend every last minute I have studying and reviewing TO pass others to get into this class.

I just do not know where to start reviewing/refreshing my brain.

Can anyone offer some assistance?

do you know what the test is? our school uses the teas test (test of essential academic skills) and there is a study book for the test. i think it's $70.00, but it includes two on-line practice tests. also, i used a kaplan study book for nursing entry exams. i got it at barnes and noble for $20.00. both of these books helped alot. and i agree with you, i think it is possible to study for these types of tests to ensure you do the best you can.

good luck

Is it the PAX test?

My entrance test, the PAX, tested Math, Science and Reading, and I can tell you without a doubt that you CAN study for it. I got a study guide, knew it 100% BY HEART, every single question, every paragraph. I had not taken a biology course in over 15 years, and had not even HAD the math that was on it, and I got a 99%. Passing grade was 80% and only 3 people in my test session out of 20 passed, and only ONE out of the 20 from the session before us. So yes, get yourself a study guide, or two, and know know KNOW them to pieces!

Good luck! :)

this is the website. unless i'm blind- it does not state what the test is?

i clicked on the website and it says the test is the net test. it happens that there is a sticky post in the prenursing forum of allnurses that gives pointers on how to take the net test, which i'm sure must be the same test.

i hope this helps.:twocents:

http://www.studyguidezone.com/nursingtest.htm I found this study guide to look at. Looks like it could be quite useful. I will have to check out this sticky note in prenursing. thank you so much for your help!

here is what will help you out a lot, trust me :D

I saw that online searching through google. I was thinking about it, but I don't know too much about it, and spending $30 on a book I know little about-I'm iffy on. I have been searching and finding helpful things on this website- think this may suit me for the NET test?

I went to the library and checked out 3 different study guides and answered every question in each of them. I took about a month to study before taking the exam. Although I did skip trying to learn vocabulary words. I studied mostly science... the math was sooooo easy on the test.

What area's of science did you cover??

our college library has the books you would be suggested to use, if you took our entrance test. I would not be suprised to find that yours was the same way. That way you can check it out before trying it. I would be comfortable with anything Saunders/Mosby and I would not skimp on the cash on either of those. They're worth the money (there's a third "big name in nursing guides" that I cannot think of but I'm sure someone else will chime in)
