Need some advice with a friend regarding school

Published

Hi, I know this is a male forum and I am a female, but I have a question. One of my dearest friends, who is male, wants to start nursing school where I attend. He will be GREAT at being a nurse. He is one of the most caring people I know. He feels he has 2 strikes against him, being he is male going into a female dominated occupation and he is also gay. His partner is extremely supportive of his decision. I am a girl so I don't know if there are any words you could give me to encourage him on the other aspects he is concerned about.

Thank you in advance,

Specializes in ICU.
ROFLMAO>....Like I said, "Mildred" just happens to be a diva.... I packaged a welcome to nursing school gift and left it at his house. It had a new notebook, pens, calculator, and a bottle of Midol (for those moments).

First time I've ever typed this and actually meant it...LOL

As a straight male I envy the gay guys because they have it easier. They are already "one of the girls" especially if he is a "diva". If a male nursing student is not assumed gay, he is assumed ot be girl chasing, although I must say nursing students are easy on the eyes ;)

Either way, any bias is in his head because I've noticed that most nursing students go out of their way to be supportive, understanding etc. GOOD LUCK

To be completely honest I (as a male nursing student) don't think he has any strikes against him. I believe that women do enjoy working with men, but they are always worried about getting hit on/sexual harrassment. Having a homosexual coworker takes that away. You look at gay men and their best friends are always women. I don't think anyone in this profession will have any problems with him based on those two criteria

They need more male nurses now. First of all, being male has the advantages such as strength, looks, and charm. =D
