Hello to all my fellow hard-working nurses. I always enjoy reading the various messages included in this site, as it reminds me of what an outstanding group of individuals I am associated with. It seems I have a situation of which I could strongly use some input and advice from as many of you who can find the time to pitch in. I was diagnosed with advanced metastatic prostate cancer three years ago. Let this be a lesson to all of us.......to encourage other men or men we know to get a PSA test before age 50....as I was 42 when I was diagnosed. Unfortunately, my cancer was discovered too late before it had spread to my bones, back and neck. I am doing IV chemotherapy once a week....and taking the oral antineoplasm Emcyt every day. Actually.....it is not so bad. I mean, lets face it.....just about all of us has hugged a toliet bowl before at one time in our life. My tumors are beginning to show improvement, so I am truly blessed. I have, however, had to cease work as an ICU RN.....but do some Hospice care on a PRN basis. The mortgage still has to be paid, however, so I am looking for an opportunity to use my education at home. I have recently completed a Legal Nurse Consulting course via internet....and last week, I spotted a New York Times article about a new field known as medical billing advocacy. This involves reviewing medical bills for overbilling and unnecessary procedures in order to lower ones hospital bill (and we all know that this happens quite often). The concept was the brainchild of Ms. Pat Palmer of Medical Billing Advocates. She takes the bills of individuals....audits them....and is paid a percentage of whatever she might find that is incorrect or inappropiate. Has anyone been personally involved in this field....and if so.....how do you like it and what sort of services do you provide. I am planning on taking a course on medical billing (of which I have no experience). I also think I would find the area of Legal Nurse Consulting very interesting, and was hoping I could get some input from some of you who are involved in that area. Believe me....any advice would be greatly appreciated. I hope to hear from many of you at your convenience. Until then, my best to each and every one of you. Thanks in advance......Robert

Hello, Robert.:balloons:
I am a legal nurse consultant. Have you started to market yourself in this field?
I do hope you are doing o.k. My best to you.

Robert,
The program that you are describing above is not knew. Medical billing reviews in some form or another have been around for years, and done by nurses working for insurance companies, etc. This person just set up a business selling her services and teaching, but it is not new.
Please do a review of this area first.
Best of luck to you....................:wink2:
