Yes, life events can take a toll on ANYone, let alone an RN who gives as part of the job. I hope you are seeing a mental health professional, to help with the depression and grief, and with formulating a plan for supporting yourself, WHEN you are ready. Allow yourself time to grieve and heal. Let us know how you are doing.

Can you get a PRN job, maybe work once a week or start out slow, to ease your way back and cover just your bills? I find that can help with the grieving process if you can't take a full load right now and think things through. This way you won't burn bridges and you can take care of yourself.

What state are you in? Also try agency as PRN. It'll be a higher rate and you can work less hrs until you get your mental health together.

I can only imagine how much experience and wisdom you've gained over 16 years in nursing, but it's clear that the traumatic events you've faced have deeply impacted you. It's completely understandable if your focus or passion has shifted because of the things you have been going through.
I'd suggest working regularly with a behavioral health specialist or counselor to help process what you've been through - for your own personal healing. For Nursing - I would take this time to explore passion-driven work that aligns with where you are now emotionally and professionally.
Sending you strength and healing for the road ahead.
