Need advice on applying for nursing school

Published

Hi all, I'm looking at joining an ABSN, post-bac program, whatever you want to call it. My undergrad was in non-nursing and its been past 5 years since I took science courses.

  • Previously had a C in Anat. (took it twice), a B in Phys. and had to drop Micro & Chem to save my undergrad GPA
  • Undergrad GPA is a 2.8972 (whether that rounds up to 2.89, 2.9 idk) due to unfair circumstances I'm still unhappy about

Willing to take my science prereqs over again. Currently taking a HD/FS course at the local community college. Was late registering this semester for school. Is it not wise to take AP1 & AP2 at the same time? Not the smartest gal out there. Still need to take Micro, Human Genetics, a Bio-Organ. class, & pathophys. Was planning on taking genetics and pathophys online next semester, with micro in person.

  • My top choice has a 3.0 cutoff & requires a B in the science pre-reqs. I'm scared in applying to it and getting rejected because of my GPA. Thoughts? Any school recommendations I would gladly appreciated. I'm located in PA.

Tying to get a job as a PCT but having no luck so far. I figured in the meanwhile I'd try to get certified as a CNA. I'm also taking the TEA's in Dec.

I also feel like I am in a "time-crunch", trying to meet deadlines. I was hoping to start school next fall, but would it be better until I get my science pre-req's done, and try for spring 2021? Or just wait in general & don't rush things. Lol. I tend to "overload myself" quickly and easily, taking on more than I can handle. Usually it doesn't end pretty. FYI, I'm 25. I'm also not sure if I should try to find a Master's program to get into or something. I think I wanna be an NP but who knows, that could change.

Thanks, thoughts and advice much appreciated =]
