Our pharmacist said it's not all that effective and we do not use it. Last week I attended a conference in Columbus Ohio and they discussed this and said it is not as effective as good ole Roxanol. We only use Roxanol and it is amazing how well it works. Once we can get some of our patient's to use it (Roxanol), they are all happy with the results.
one of the nurses that I work with was try to get a doctor to write for nebulized ms and he wasn't buying it. She wanted my input and I told her that I, myself had never had great results from this. Anybody here have any earth shattering effects from nebulized MS? I would rather just use Roxanol. It's cheaper and works great.
It won't win out in a randomized double blinded test but like anything else, when you are dealing with individuals you may find people who like the way it works. I would go for the roxanol and ativan SL first but if you have a resistant patient/family or some other contraindication what have you got to lose by trying it?
I'm sorry doodlemom, didn't mean to offend thee. I haven't been in
hospice too long (2 years) and I first heard about nebulized MS earlier
this year, the medical director for the hospice I worked for at time, had
attended the/a Pallative Care Conference, I want to say in Tennessee,
and came back ordering nebulized MS in lieu of Ativan and/or MS SL; said
he heard about it at the conference and it had gotten good reviews.
I assumed it was something new, sorry. Anyway, from my limited experience
it didn't work as well as the Ativan/MS SL had been working, thus my
input. Take care!
Hey Old coot and Doodlemom. Long time no post. I just read a blurb about neb MS and it basically said efficacy was variable at best, BUT the comment made about what the pt/family THINKS is important. We have all danced around what pt/family thinks about a med to try to soften them toward trying a med they are reluctant to use. It can be a challenge.
