  1. Sounds like a great research topic
  2. The CDC recommends the use of alcohol based hand sanitizers as an adjunct to washing hands with soap and water. There has been reliable research on it's effectiveness. Wash hands at appropriate times, such as when they are visibly soiled, upon arrival and when leaving work, befoe and after meals, before and after toileting. It is recommended to wash hands after using the sanitizer 5 times. I cannot use all brands some are irritating to my skin. I have found a couple of brands that don't irritate me. I think it improves infection control measures,as I have seen many healthcare workers neglect to wash their hands at the appropriate times( even in areas where contact precautions are required)
  3. Do you have an active license? What are the requirements to work as a nurse in Toronto? Is a diploma required. First things first, get credentialed. Next consider whethter it was the timing of your applications. I tried to find jobs during the holidays and no one responded. I couldn't believe how poorly some recruiters followed up. After I called them back I recieved job offers. Did't want to work in some of those places after I saw how unprofessional they were. Don't give up you'll find something thats right for you. ATTEND SOME JOB FAIRS . INSERVICES AND WORKSHOPS.
  4. You know your children and your situation better than anyone. Go with your first mind is my motto. Call off within the time as outlined in your policy. If you get written up oh well. I you get fired you will most likely be able to appeal and win.(unemployment usually rules in favor of the employee) If you don't call off you'll probably live with regrets or guilties, because you'll later feel it( the job) wasn't worth it.
  5. I'll look for your questions and reply on this site.. Relax. Do not miss classes. Be on time, ask questions and complete your assignments. This will get you far. I have been a nurse nearly 30 years. I am in a BSN program now.
  6. mage replied to Rn_mady's topic in General Nursing
Maybe there is just a shortage of nurses for full-time, nights and weekends . these appear to be the only jobs open
  7. I suggest one at a time. 25 is young and you have time . If you get the education you can choose your work schedule and build your career around your families needs. Nursing school is not so flexible, But remember whose life is it anyway? Make your own dwcision.
