I am curious if anyone knows anything about the accelerated program at NMC. It is one of the only ones around that I can find who will accept you with an associates degree. How competitive is it to get into? How tough is the program? Instructors? I am looking for any information. Thanks!

Congratulations!:yeah: I am in a DNP at University of South Alabama. My specialty area is Acute Care Pediatric. I'm not sure about Creighton's program, but some of the hours I will be completing are spent on my final project. Good Luck to you as well!!!:)

I was unaware of another orientation. The only one I was aware of was on Dec 20th. Are you by chance talking about the ACE Jumpstart? There was only 4 of us and we just took some math and reading tests for about 2 hours and then a Briggs Meyers Personality test. I applied late and had 2 classes in progress this semester, so I was accepted a little later than most. I think this is why there was only 4 of us. Other than that it was a really basic tour of the building.

So, now that I have all these textbooks.. I am wondering do I bring them to the first day of school?? I feel real stupid asking...real stupid

Do they still make you buy all the books for the program as a bundle? If so, you definitely won't need all of them right away. You could take the basic books for each class with you but leave the rest in the car. If you need one you didn't bring in with you, you can always get it during break. At the first class they should tell what they want you to bring to class. (I kept a crate with all the books for the current classes in the car the entire time.)

Congrats to all of you who made it into the program. Don't be surprised if the first couple weeks seem overwhelming. You will get the hang of it. The biggest thing is to find a way that works for you to keep track of all of the assignments. Pull together as a class, help each other out - you will be spending a lot of time together over the next 14 months.

You will be amazed at how much you learn in such a short time. A year and a half from now, you will be a nurse! It is worth it.

I agree with what anurseatlast said about keeping the main books in your car. I do the same thing. If your first day is NS100, you will definitely need Harkreader and Perry & Potter. Those are the ones I would put in your bag.

I am considering applying to the accelerated program at Nebraska Methodist for entry in Jan of 2012 and I was wondering if anyone can tell me what the hours for class are really like? Also what is the maximum amount of federal student loans that can be borrowed - post bachelor's for one year? Does Methodist offer any scholarships? Would I be able to work between 16 - 20 hours a week?

I'd be happy to answer any questions as I am in the Ace Program right now and will finish in March. A couple things... We've lost around 7 or 8 people who didn't make the 75% test grade average for either nursing 100 or 220.. Half of the people we have lost were on scholarship ( I think they only gave 6). No matter how smart you are, it really doesn't matter unless you put in the time to really understand the information. If you are working you will lose some of this time.. Are there people who work in the program? Yea, a couple people that work as nurse secretary's or whatever and find time to pick up some hours here or there but they have really flexible schedules regarding work and understand the information from having a strong backround in healthcare. Some weeks I got about 5 hours of sleep most nights and definitely couldn't work just because of how the week was structured. Regarding financial aid..just call someone here. Most of us that borrowed for our first degrees are doing the same for the program. With the maximum amount of federal loans taken out, you will still have to borrow privately to pick up between 3-5 thousand per semester. As far as books go, I would probably purchase the care planning books, the main texts for each class, and share/split costs of other books or rent the books online. Carrying all your books in your car is a good idea as you never know when you will need to use one. Generally the hours for class range between a start time of 7 -8:30 am and end between 3:30 and 5. I would say the majority of people realistically spend between 60-70/80 hours of week in class or doing something regarding the program. It sounds crazy but you just get used to it after awhile.

I'm very excited about starting the ACE program come January. I have heard nothing but positive comments about the staff and the program itself. But as someone that has never been to Nebraska, I was wondering if you or anyone else could shed some light on how you like living in that area?

Well your asking a pretty open ended question, and i'm not sure where your from, but i'll try to give you some information. We have a few out of staters and most of them are living in the on campus apartments which are pretty basic but I like them. Most of the out of state people seem to like it alright here. I'm from here, but I have lived a few other places and still like the laid back pace here. The first 16 weeks are pretty busy and then the summer gets better so you will have some time to check out Omaha or whatever. Not much public transit if you don't have a car so I would live on campus. I don't really know what else to say, but the program is really busy and I don't really find too much for leisure time outside of school and other responsibilities I have. I will say I think the program is definitely preparing us to pass the Nclex and be good nurses.

So does that mean you live in the apartments on-campus?
