2nd bachelor's degree accelerated nursing

Published

I am about to begin a 2nd bachelor's degree accelerated nursing program in May 2010. I just about maxed out on my first degree as I went to a private university. I will be going to Angelo State University in San Angelo,TX but I am having to relocate and they say you cannot work as it is so intense. I am having difficulty securing aid. I am also 51 years old single, and have 3 children. Anyone have any suggestions, tips, or something they tried? Who is the most lenient lender, grants etc.?? Any info is appreciated. Thank you

I did a 18 month accel program, and some of my fellow students worked 16-40 hours/week. I don't know about the program you're attending, but you might try to ask some current students about the feasibility of working during the program.

Good luck!

There are numerous programs for someone with a bachelors. I am like you, have a bachelors and family resposibilities. Have you considered the accelerated nursing programs designed for those with a bachelors and no nursing background. In that program, you would get a masters in nursing. There are other programs; for instance, distant learning programs: Excelsior, Indiana State University (summer they will be authorized to offer the program in TX). Many require you to be an LVN/LPN first.

Before uprooting your family, look at all your alternatives. Have you considered LPN/LVN school first. That is about 18 months. In TX, you work in the same jobs as an RN with certain restrictions. Afterwards, you could apply to the online, distant learning RN program and while still working as an LPN/LVN. :twocents:
