NCTC ADN Spring 2014

Has anyone applied for the Spring semester? I saw that test letters are being sent out next week and was curious to see who applied. :)

Faithnwilliam21 - how did you do on the test?? I was at the 1:00 section.. Wondering if we were both there at the same time?!

How did you guys do? I know when we tested, we all did the worst on AP so don't freak out if you did too. Our cutoff score for the fall was a 73.

Hey all i didn't make the cut unfortunately. I found myself struggling with time , over thinking and analyzing things. I am going to continue to work on my reading comprehension (he timing aspect) I found myself guessing answers to avoid running out of time. I found the Kaplan study book to not be too much help, however, the reading was the closest fit to the material. Math was by far the easiest! Congratulations to all applicants and especially those that got in!!!

Thank you! I made 87% overall, but A&P was by far my worst section. The website says the cutoff score this semester is 69% (I believe) so I am just waiting on the official acceptance letter now! So excited and nervous!

Congrats! I hadn't even been to the website to see that the cut off was posted. I'm in the program and theyve been keeping us busy! Keep an eye out for that packet because it will have a lot of info let me know if I can do anything to help you out.

jls- Thanks so much!!

I am starting the ADN program this January and I have a question for previous students. Are you able to work throughout the semester? I financially support myself. Although I have loans and savings, I still would need to maybe keep working part time to sustain myself.

Thanks,

Carolyn

Carolyn - you CAN work. I work full time and there are several other students that still work either PT or FT and have made good grades. I won't lie - it is not easy. I only get a few hours of sleep and you need to plan on getting as many assignments done ahead of time as you can (like math and terminology), but it is 100% possible.

I've heard it gets harder to work through 2nd semester, but I'm going to give it a shot. I'll have to report back on how that works out!

Thank you so much for your advice! It's nice to meet someone one step ahead to get tips from!

Thank you,

Carolyn

No problem! If you need anything else, my name is Jenna and I will be at orientation.

If you want to know what to buy, let me know. They will give you a list at orientation, but it is a lot and can be overwhelming to get it all in one week. I strongly advise you get your scrubs now, rather than waiting. They need to be Landau, true red and can't be anything fancy like an empire waist. You will also need one white set (any brand) for clinicals. Your clinical shoes need to be all white, all leather, non skid shoes. I think I have one pair that are Nike and the other pair are Sketchers.

Also, you'll be buying a box of books from the Gainesville bookstore. It is just over $1000, so please plan for that! The good news is, you don't have to buy books each semester!

If you want to talk more about it, let me know and I can tell you other things you need. I had to buy a little bit every week, so I'm sure others will be in the same boat!
