NCLEX-RN versus NCLEX-PN

I am an RN student and just finished my 3rd semester in the program which made me eligible to sit in for the NCLEX-PN/LVN to get my license as an LPN/LVN. Here's my question: What is the difference between the 2? I mean as far as depth of the questions. I've known people who are RN graduate but challenged the NCLEX-PN and passed it on the first try versus at least 2-3 tries in passing the NCLEX-RN. Can someone give me an idea of what kind of questions they give on the NCLEX-PN?

It was a long time ago and I took the NCLEX-PN when it was still on paper. However, my questions on the LPN test had more- "advise the RN", or "advise the MD" answers. I took the computerized NCLEX-RN test a couple years ago, and that was more priority focused (which patient do you see first), what do you do in response to this symptom/problem, and symptom recognition, as I recall.

I take my LPN boards here in Minneapolis on Monday morning - instead of spending $300+ on a Kaplan course, the school I graduated from offered a review course for $138. I'm very glad I spent the money, since it's been a great refresher, especially for Peds/OB (what we've covered so far this week). Does the school you attend offer this sort of course for their RN program? It's worth mentioning if nothing else - maybe they'll create one!

I know of two of my classmates who have taken their boards already, and of them one passed (computer shut off at 85 questions) - the other took hers today, and it also shut off at 85 questions; I'm hoping for the same results!

Good luck, I'm on to an LPN-RN course this summer!

When I was studying for my exam I used the NCLEX-PN, I took it to work with me (I was in preceptorship) and the RN's I was working with, couldnt answer 1/2 the questions?!? :rolleyes:

Must be the water. However, I also think the NCLEX studyquide helped me for both my LPN test and my RN.
