NCLEX-RN Review Materials

Hey guys,

So i got my results in from my first nclex-rn attempt, i did NOT pass. :(

I am looking for studying tips and review materials that everyone has used to pass the nclex. I already used the Saunders book and literally went through the entire book cover to cover...I had a lot of Prioritizing questions when i took the test, any recommendations as to excellent books for Prioritizing and Delegation? I need books with questions and rationale...let me know what you guys have used...I NEED to pass it on the 2nd attempt...which will not be until I wait the 45 days.

Try the PDA (la charity book): it's challenging and helped me a lot. Comes with rationales. I also used the Saunders but didn't read it all. I only focused on my weaknesses or basic procedures I may not have seen in a while. There are other sources ppl here have put links to, so just browse through some posts and I'm sure you will find something. I don't believe it's so much as doing thousands of questions but in reviewing them (right or wrong) and understanding "why" you missed it. Best of luck and I'm sure you will pass.

I would pace myself with PDA. I personally would do 2-3 tests, grade them, take a break and then review all the questions (right or wrong) one by one. I didn't get to do all the chapters (due to time constraints).

I see many people here suggesting "the La Charity book" (also known as Priority, Delegation, Assignment). It's an excellent book and I talk about it extensively in my post (https://allnurses.com/nclex-discussion-forum/passed-my-nclex-841261.html). However, do not solely concentrate on this book as it relates to Management of Care which is only worth 17-23% of the NCLEX. (One can argue that because the Infection chapter delves into Safety and Infection Control 9-15%, the book also accounts for that.)

Wait until you get your Candidate Performance Report (https://www.ncsbn.org/1223.htm) before you come up with a new study plan. You may either need to start studying from scratch or hit those problem areas depending on how far or close to passing you were.

Is there a way to get the candidate performance report before you take the exam?

I also didn't pass the first time, I did get my CPR report and it comes in the mail from the BRN and they were all "near the passing standard" I had 265 questions. I used Kaplan review as it was part of our program. After taking the test, I felt that Kaplan's content review was not inclusive enough. Most of my classmates did pass with Kaplan though. I'm seeing a pattern with Saunders Comprehensive Review and La Charity book for suggestions of people who passed. Is there anyone who also passed the second time who has suggestions of what they did differently? Does anyone else have any suggestions who passed the first time? I really want to make sure I pass this second time around.

I really enjoyed the Saunders CD, but I heard that the questions were too easy. It that true or not. Someone mentioned that the Comprehensive Review book was great for content, but suggested going to the next Saunders book for above the line NCLEX questions. Please let me know if you know.

I am concentrating on my weak areas. This really cuts down the study time. Assess first, then make a plan.

La charity helped me a lot, and also the lippincott q&a similar to nclex questions. if you're looking for a more detailed book i would recommend mosby. Answer as many questions as you can, so you can have the idea how to attack the questions and also i will boost your critical thinking skills. Good luck on your exam. :yes:
