nclex rn in CA. My timeline, calling BRN, PVT etc.

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

Hello all! I have decided to post this in hopes that it would provide more up-to-date information to anyone that needed help. This site/forum discussion had helped me along my NCLEX journey so the least I could do was share my experience and timeline with you. I will discuss what I used to study/review, my wait time for results, calling the California BRN, and PVT.

I took my NCLEX RN in California on 05/06/2017, Saturday. My appointment was 0800. I went all 265 questions, with no breaks, and finished almost 1300. I walked out defeated, exhausted, and for sure believed I had failed.

I told myself I was not going to do the PVT but at 2330 that night I caved and did it. I did it first with an American Express gift card that I received as a bday gift that had a $0 balance. I got the good pop up. After that, I used a valid credit card, didn't change the numbers, expiration date, or cvc, still got the good pop up.

California does not participate in quick results but every story I had heard from friends was that their names would show up on Breeze anywhere from 2 days to 1 week after sitting for their NCLEX. After 2 weeks, my name had not popped up on Breeze, nor did I receive a letter or notice in the mail.

On 05/22/17 (2weeks and 2 days after my test) I called the CA BRN, which I was dreading to do because I had heard that you could never get through. I called around 1200 pacific time and got through after 3 tries. She went over my application to make sure my transcripts and other paperwork was in order to make sure that was not what was holding back my results. Then I was told that processing times were currently around 3-4 weeks out and that if I hadn't heard anything after 4 weeks of my exam date to call back.

On 06/01/17 (3 weeks and 5 days after my test) the wait was killing me so I decided to call even though it wasn't yet technically 4 weeks. From 1000 to approx 1400 I called the CA BRN about 38 times, each time getting an error saying they were receiving a high volume of calls at this time and they would not be able to take my call at this time.

On 06/02/17 I decided to psycho call the BRN from the time their offices opened at 0800. I would call and immediately press 0. The first 3 times kept giving me an error saying they were closed but, the 4th time, I was finally transferred to the operator, oddly enough, the same woman I spoke with last time, I could tell because she was very soft spoken with a low voice. I told her that I decided to call because the next day would have been exactly 4 weeks since my test but the BRN was closed on Saturdays. She put me on hold saying she needed to speak with someone. I was on hold for approx 7 minutes so I decided to pray and talk to God, begging for some answers. She came back on the line saying to keep checking Breeze and that she couldn't tell me much except for it was good news. AH! I thanked her, hung up the phone and started balling my eyes out.

The next day 06/03/17, EXACTLY 4 weeks since I sat for my NCLEX, my husband called me around 1330 saying my name was posted onto Breeze! GOD IS SO GOOD!

Throughout the whole 4 week wait, I tried the PVT at least once a day, sometimes more and always got the good pop up.

I used Kaplan to review. The said on the Qtrainers and the Qbank tests you make yourself you should be aiming for 65%. the Q trainers I averaged the high 50s. On one I even for 47%. But I noticed that as I progressed my scores were getting higher and higher. Once I started hitting the 60s I decided to take the NCLEX readiness exam and got a 64, the next day, I sat for my NCLEX.

So...that's my story. I know it was a bit much but I tried to give as much info as I could. Might I also mention that this was my 3rd attempt at the NCLEX RN. So my message for all of you is to stay positive! The NCLEX is designed to break you, but don't let it. Good luck and God speed!

Hi cnurse515. I am currently experiencing the same thing. I took the NCLEX-RN exam in California on Thursday, 7/6/17, and I got the good pop up. Three weeks and three days later, I have not received my official results or seen my name on the Breeze website. I last checked the Pearson website during my third week and received the good pop up. The waiting period is making me worried.

It sounds like you're experiencing exactly what I went through. My best advice would be on exactly 4 weeks after your test date. Call the CA brn. You will most likely get some type of answer. Though unofficial, it will ease your mind. Other than that, since you're getting the good pop up, it looks like you've passed. Congratulations! Do keep me updated when you receive your official results. Good luck!

Thank you for responding and for your advice. I will update you when I receive my official results.

Hi cnurse515. I called BRN today because today marks four weeks of me waiting for my results. I was told that they have my results but they weren't processed yet. I was also told that I will be added onto a follow up log, which will be sent to the supervisor. The individual also said that I will receive my official results within a week or so by mail. I then asked if I should be checking Breeze and was told that I can check it in the meantime while waiting. I feel so defeated and anxious right now.
