Saunders is great for content review. If you want practice questions, can't go wrong with Kaplan or Pearson.

The Saunders Review is too detailed in my opinion. I should have bought that Saunders book and skipped my 20K education at the University. It was helpful in some areas like L&D because I totally blocked out that semester, but for basic med-surg I believe it goes way too deep into content.
Also, I bought the Saunders Q&A book/CD and I was very angry that many of the same questions from the review are in the Q&A copy. I should have gone with Mosby.

If you have Borders bookstore or at least any substantial bookstore in your area, save your money and spend a few hours each day reading through the latest versions of Saunders Comprehensive, Exam Cram, and Mosby. These are some of the most up-to-date books relative to what the NCLEX is focusing on. Also, if you google "free NCLEX questions", I'm sure you'd stumble upon tons of free sites that have practice questions. Remember, practicing NCLEX style questions are very effective in helping you pass the exam.
Good Luck!

I primarily used Saunders to study for and pass the NCLEX (just this past week). I also used Saunders to study during nursing school but I had the 3rd edition (the 4th is the most recent one) and it didn't have the CD...someone let me use her old one. So, when I started studying for NCLEX I actually purchased the 4th edition mainly for the cd and the only difference I could see between the 3rd and 4th editions were more pictures in the 4th edition. My point is that if money is an issue for you, I would recommend looking online for a used 3rd edition with the CD. The cd is really necessary because you will be reviewing a lot of content by doing questions.
As far as Saunders being too detailed...I used to think that too...until I took the NCLEX. There were these certain two questions that I guessed on during my test and when I got home I looked up the info in Saunders and actually Saunders didn't get detailed enough~~it didn't include the info I needed to answer the questions!
However, after taking the NCLEX I would definitely recommend Saunders. You gotta know your content to pass.

If you are fresh out of school I would go with Exam Cram for a book. Saunders is also good if you need a more comprehensive reivew. For a great review online or live review I would go with Hurst Review. For questions I would go with Kaplan's Q-bank.
