NCLEX "expiration date"

I'd like to know if there is an "expiration date" as to when you can take your NCLEX from the time of graduation.For example, if I graduated 12/2011 is there a certain time period that I'm required to take the NCLEX? Does it ever become invalid where if I don't take it within a year or so for example, that I would be no longer allowed to take it unless I retake the entire course?I reside in NY.

depends on the state as some have a requirement of up to 5 years from graduation and others don't
