NCLEX PN -> Really Looong Questions on Test

Published

Hi All,

I was wondering, a friend of mine recently took her NCLEX-PN and it stopped at 205. the max.

She said that she was getting lots of priority, delegation, triage type questions and a few SATA. But When we compared the questions....I told her that mine were really short...one or two sentences at the most....but she said she got long questions. one right after the other, where they are more like case scenarios.

Anyone else have this happen to them, or anyone else have a clue what it means??

that didn't happen to me.

first of all I got 85 questions. I got about 10 SATA, abt 5 deligation ques, 2 dosage, and lots of priority. my questions were short, like 2 sents at the most.

I think I would have gone nuts if I had long case scenarios.

sorry I'm not much help. I don't have a clue what the diference in long or short questions mean.

btw. I passed my nclex- pn exam on my first try.

the questions are selected, based on what previous questions were previously missed. say you are going along and doing fine...and then you miss a sata question. they will hit you again with another similar question to give you the chance to prove your competency. so she may have missed one type of question and you a different type. or maybe you did not miss and she did or vice versa. do you see what i am trying to explain? if she missed a prioratization question, the computer program would continue to hit with the type of question until it was determined that the test taker comprehended or not. i hope this helps you.

Hello Everyone:loveya:

I have never taken the NCLEX RN test before and I was wondering, is it anything like graduate entrance exams (like the GRE or GMAT). Does the test focus on anything else besides nursing?

i don't want to come off sounding rude or anything like that, but, this is a nursing licensure exam. all questions are geared towards determining a persons compentency to practice as a nurse. .....so no, there is no other focus.

Hi KarleeRN320,

I was asking just to make sure. I don't want to take the test for the first time with no idea of what awaits me. Just because it is a test for an RN licease doesn't mean they won't try to throw in some extra questions. There are other fields of study that are integrated with nursing such as law for Nursing Attorney careers, computer programming for Informatics Nursing, business for Occupational Health nursing etc. I wanted make sure that the questions will be general nursing questions. I also wanted to get an idea of how hard the test is. I wanted to make sure that the test didn't contains questions on fields related to nursing that I mention earlier. I wanted see if the RN test will just focus on questions that address nursing in a hospital or clinical setting. That way I will know what to focus on. Since I just started working on a Nursing degree this year, I figure it is better to ask then not too :loveya:

you are right to always ask when in doubt:yeah:. never hesitate to ask what you don't know about, especially in a clinical setting. with any luck your co-workers will be happy to answer questions. the n-clex is a difficult test, but with study you will do fine. as you get close to graduation, do lots and lots of nclex style practice questions. i think that from march till i took my exam in the first part of july, i probably did 100-200 questions a day. i used lippincotts n-clex study guide. lol i am a horrible test taker and thouroughly expected to have to retake the test. happily i did not have to. i am now in my 2nd year of nursing:nurse: and am still asking a zillion questions. good luck in your studies.
