How many questions did you answer when you passed NCLEX?

Specializes in ICU Neuro.
hello, how do you think you did? there are many myths that state that if the computer shuts off at 75 then you have passed, on the flip side i have heard that is you get all 265 questions then you will fail. all these are just that... myths there is no scientific method to determine whether you pass according to the amt of ? offered. the computer determines whether you are "safe" to be a rn based purely on your responses to scenarios given during the test. who are you with delegation, and priority ?'sthe computer will "give" you ?'s untilone out of two things occur...#1 the computer is 90% sure that you can deliver safe and effective care in a rn capacity(you pass), or #2 the computer is 90% sure that you can not give safe care(you fail). in the case of your results, unforunately unless your area has quick result, you are stuck with having to wait for the results, and most bons will not give you results over the phone.i hope that this info helps you

hi, great response. just wanted to point out for information purposes, that the nclex seeks 95% certainty. the following info is taken from the national council on state boards of nursing website @ https://www.ncsbn.org/ge_faq.pdf: it is intended to dismiss certain testing myths...

q- are candidates randomly selected to receive maximum length examinations-265 items for the nclex-rn examination and 205 items for the nclex-pn examination?

a- items are administered following the principles of computer adaptive testing (cat). candidates are not randomly selected to receive a designated number of examination items. as a candidate takes the examination, questions are selected based on the candidate's response to previous questions. testing stops when it can be determined with 95% confidence that a candidate's performance is either above or below the passing standard, regardless of the number of items answered or the amount of testing time elapsed (six-hour maximum time period for the nclex-rn examination and five hour maximum time period for the nclex-pn examination).

just wanted to be sure information was as correct as possible, not trying to play troll.;)
