Hello, I am writing my story on how I passed the NCLEX in my second attempt beause I found such relief through these threads knowing I wasn't the only person going through what I went through. Here's my story:
I graduated nursing school in May 2016. I was an average student and I would say I am not the best test taker. I began prepping for my NCLEX immediately after graduation and I signed up for the NCLEX June 1st 2016. I bought the hurst review class. This class entails a in class review or online review. (I chose in class) and six exams online to complete once you know the material. I only studied the hurst information because they garunteed you would pass. I studied for two weeks total. I learned the material and took the tests. They want you averaging 84/125. My average was roughly 78/125. I didn't know how to interprete these results. I sat for my boards and walked out knowing I had failed. I had all 265 questions and just knew.
I got got my results and sure enough, fail. I took two weeks off of studying and then did the hurst remediation course which was free. This remediation course was honestly not helpful. I just dove deeper into the book memorizing every line on every page. (I thought I did a good enough job before) I did not stick to the outline of the hurst remediation rather I bought the Kaplan q bank for one month which was 60$. These questions were much harder then the hurst review questions and set up much more like the NCLEX. I studied for three weeks roughly 4 hours a day and sat for my boards on July 19th. I went into the exam much more confident about the questions because of the Kaplan q bank. I found out two days later that I passed and I am officially a RN and have started my career.
bottom line is if you think you are weaker at test taking do the Kaplan q bank. I love the way hursts book lays out the information but their review questions are based solely on that book and worded much easier then the NCLEX itself. If you need both in depth material review and test help. I know it is expensive but do both hurst and Kaplan. Hurst gives great resources they just don't provide the best testing materials.
