NCLEX help!!

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

I attended a one year LPN program October 2014-October 2015. Little did I know that the entire school was a joke. They cared little about the students and entirely about the money. Yes, I passed, as everyone did. I took the NCLEX November 2015 after studying the hurst program and failed. I have little hope and don't know what to study. My results showed that I was near passing in every topic except pharmacology, which I was below passing standards in. What should I do? I have little hope and have been highly depressed since. Help.

Something that helped me study for the NCLEX-PN was a free app called "NCLEX PN Mastery". I also really liked the Kaplan, HESI and Saunders review guides.

Which pharmacology text did your program use? We had a great one with a turquoise cover-- I'll post this and then go look to see if I can dig up the details.

Okay, our text was 'Pharmacology and the Nursing Process, 7e' (ISBN 9780323087896). While rummaging on my bookcase, I remembered that I also really liked this set of pharmacology flash cards called "Pharm Phlash!" which focused on the 'must know' info for the most popular medications. They are illustrated in a way that really worked with my brain, and I seemed to retain a lot more info when I drew one at random each day and read over it a few times (put the trickier ones on your fridge, in your bathroom mirror, etc and you'll see it a few times each day).

My general approach with pharmacology was repetition and utilizing a few different mediums: as I am generally a visual learner, I found that YouTube had some good clips which focused on pharmacology from a nursing perspective, then I had the flash cards-- even Pinterest has some good info and you can easily create a 'board' to aid you (just make sure that you are pinning info which you verify with a reliable source).

The book we used for Pharm was "Basic pharmacology for Nurses" I think we touched the book a total of 2 times the entire semester. The biggest issue was that the teacher wouldn't come in most days or she would assign us drug cards for homework but then never collect them. never knew if I was even doing them right, nor did the class. We all got shafted in the entire pharm course, unfortunately. I'll have to look into that book though. I have tried the NCLEX mastery PN app but the questions on there seem much more difficult than what the NCLEX asks you, do you feel the same way?

I agree that the pharmacology questions on that app are tough. I think that what helped me most was reading the rationales that they provide-- especially making those connections between lab values, adverse reactions and the issue being treated. Knowing the more common medications and the affected body system helped me unravel a few things as well.

Do you remember how many pharmacology questions you were given on your NCLEX last month? I honestly think that I saw fewer than ten on mine, but it's already a bit of a blur two months later. ;) What stood out most for me was the number of SATA and delegation questions I received.

I only recall seeing one drug I've never heard of before and they only gave me the brand name, not the generic. Other than that, I don't decal any pharm. I know I got like 3 SATA and a ton of priority and pt teaching
