NCLEX EXAM-How long must I wait!

Published

Hello everyone

Can anyone tell me how long after one applies to take the NCLEX can they expect to take the exam? And if you fail how many chances to you get to retake the exam in a given time? I hear months go by in waiting because there are many applications

Thanks!

All depends on whether you are a US or foreign trained student and the state you apply to as each state has their own requirements

Also to add you are not applying for NCLEX but to be a license nurse, NCLEX is just a part of the application process

I believe, you get 1)"Permission to take NCLEX" from your State w/i 2 months or so; and then, you have to contact Pearson VUE to schedule your test. If you fail, you can reschedule in 45 days. and can take it as many times as you want within your "Permission to take NCLEX" validation time.

The timeline varies based upon different factors, none of which may be apparent to the applicant other than the speed upon which they submit their application and make an appointment to test.

It depends on your State Boards. I applied July 31st with the Secretary of State office AND Pearson Vue, got my fingerprinting done the 5th, and am still waiting for my ATT (Authorization to Test). My school sent out my transcript the 18th of this month. Some of the people I graduated with this July have already gotten their ATTs and one has already taken (and passed) the NCLEX. It just depends on how quickly you go through the steps and also if they happen to get to your application at the optimum time. If you're lucky, it'll take a month or a little less.

Good luck!

What state are you in? I applied in california. I sent my appl. with fingerprints on Aug 17th. My nursing school transcript was mailed just a couple of days ago. I hope it won't take months and months to recieve ATT. Good luck to you too!
