NCLEX eligibility Michigan

Published

I am hoping for advise that will be able to resolve a quick question. I am a practicing RN BScN in Ontario, Canada.

I originally applied to write the NCLEX two years ago. Needless to say, I received my ATT but never wrote.

Recently, I spoke with Nursing Michigan Licensing. I've been told that I have till October 2013 to complete this process. After October 2013, I have been told that I will have to take the "whole" nursing program again. The WHOLE 4 year BScN program! ... there was something said about 6 attempts or 3 years... I would think maybe a refresher course or something would be needed but not the "whole" 4 year program...

I find this hard to believe. Please provide guidance or confirmation.

That doesn't sound right if you are currently practicing in Canada. I would call and see if you can talk to someone else.

Suggest you try and talk to them because their website doesn't indicate you need to resit the nursing course again however application is only valid for 3 years and then the application becomes invalid so have to start the proces again

Please Note:

An application submitted with the appropriate fee is valid for three years from the date it is received. If an applicant fails to complete the requirements for licensure within the three year period following the date of application, the application will become invalid.

If an individual does not pass the NCLEX-RN within 12 months of the first attempt, they will be required to complete an RN exam review course and provide certification of completion of the exam review course to the Michigan Board.

If an individual is not successful in passing the NCLEX-RN after 3 attempts, they will be required to complete an RN exam review course and provide certification of completion of the review course to the Michigan Board.

If an individual is not successful in passing the NCLEX-RN after 6 attempts, they will be required to complete an entire approved RN educational program before being eligible to take the NCLEX again.
