Specializes in Surgery.

I passed first time too. I had a decent handle on content from nursing school, and brushed up on classes of meds, isolation precautions, standard precautions, and learned mnemonics for the NCLEX. All that helped a lot. As well as fetal heart tones. Kaplan strategies are the best to use when t comes to narrowing answers down by eliminating sting psychosocial and pain first, then using the ABCs. Seriously I highly recommend Kaplan. Pay for the class and go sit in the lectures. It's worth it. Make a study plan. Stick to it. Spread out the question trainers and do practice questions on the days you don't do a trainer. I didn't take a day off. Studied non stop straight for 4 weeks. Passed in 75 questions. Had a ton of select all, so practice those! When you're answering them, ask yourself the question for every answer. "Would I as the nurse assess vitals q4 hrs for a pt in the ICU. No I wouldn't, that's too far apart." Take the time to do that. Use the whiteboard and write 1-5 down and cross off the ones you eliminate. That way you don't accidentally check one you don't want. Double check your answers on the screen to the whiteboard. Take your time on select alls. I did. Said t out loud to myself quietly every time. That's some advice for now. Will give more if asked! You guys can do it and are future RNs! So exciting! :)
