hello guys! my name is les. it's my 3rd month here in new jersey. aside from getting my immigration papers done, my other goal is to pass the nclex-rn.
the journey to achieve the usrn title especially for international nurses, is a bit hassle. unique standards were set by different states of board of nursing and surely does involve tons of paperwork, and expect that it will be time and money consuming. well, that's the way it is!
i decided to apply for a license in vt instead for nj, because of one honest reason- to get rid of toefl. if i will hopefully pass the exam (crossin' my fingers), i will apply for endorsement in nj. hmmmnn.....sounds like a plan
there are five (5) elements that are now required for licensure of a foreign graduate as a nurse in new jersey including: 2. proof that the applicant has achieved a passing score on the test of english as a foreignlanguage exam, toefl (c.g.f.n.s. is also providing english language evaluations) (must besubmitted only to c.g.f.n.s.);
2. proof that the applicant has achieved a passing score on the test of english as a foreignlanguage exam, toefl (c.g.f.n.s. is also providing english language evaluations) (must besubmitted only to c.g.f.n.s.);
basically, i am not afraid of taking the language proficiency test. in fact, i am 100% ready and was scheduled to take it a couple of months before i left my country. unfortunately, i was not allowed by the test administrators to take the exam because i failed to show up the hard copy of my passport as a proof of my identity. passport was sent to us embassy at that time for visa processing. i brought with me only a photocopy, and three of my secondary id's but plainly they did not consider my reason and these guys meanly kicked me out of the testing room. to make the story short, i was really disappointed with toefl.ibt! i paid $185 for nothing!
anyways, i believe that ~ if there's a will, there's a way. i am grateful to all the nurses who posted their thoughts here in allnurses.com regarding their nclex applications. they really enlightened me on what to do.
first week of august, i signed up with cgfns to have my credentials evaluated. i'm glad my school and the licensing agency already submitted the necessary information to them. i will submit the other documents, such as my highschool diploma, and marriage certificate tomorrow as well as my application for licensure in the state of vt. let's start the ball rolling.:hrnsmlys:
i will do a self review while waiting for my eligibilty. i've been looking up for helpful resources online and i'm starting to answer practice questions daily. i tell you, my scores are depressing, but i will never say never coz i am in for this challenge! i know this is the process in a nutshell. i will just do my best, and i know god will the do the rest. i will become a us:nurse: someday!

I would suggest you check with the BON that you can endorse without doing English exam, seen a few members post in the International forum that they still had to sit English when endorsing license

Yes -- I don't know about New Jersey specifically, but quite a few states require that foreign-educated nurses still have to meet all the requirements for basic licensure if they're endorsing from another US state. I would suggest you verify with NJ BON whether they will still require you to pass English test if you're endorsing (if you haven't already) before you spend the time and money to apply in another state.

Hi...If you're interested in a review that specializes in foreign trained nurses try readytopass.com They review all the content you need to know for the exam and have been very helpful to many nurses who have been trained outside the U.S. Good luck!
