NC info for new grad

U.S.A. North Carolina

Published

Hi all,

I am from Nova Scotia, Canada and I will be graduating in Dec. of this year from an accelerated nursing degree program. I am interested in relocating to NC and I have noticed from this forum that there are a number of heath care facilities in NC that will hire new grads (and into ER positions, where I would like to start). I am curious if anyone is familiar with the 'trends' of non-U.S. nurses relocating to NC. If anyone knows of or has heard of people doing this, some information would be appreciated. I realize that I have to complete/pass the NCLEX exam, but are there any other issues I should be aware of?

I would also like to know what the average hourly wage/salary would be for a new grad and what the average salary is for a seasoned nurse would be. I am looking for fair wages, but I am more interested in incentives such as signing bonus and bursaries/funding for future education, such as a masters.

Sorry for the winded questions, but if I could get some information regarding these issues, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

PCMH in Greenville, NC, loves Canadian nurses and welcomes new grads into specialty units such as the ED. Starting wage for new RN grads is ~ $19/hr; also has sign-on bonus. PCMH also has educational benefits for its employees. Great educational opportunities abound at East Carolina University School of Nursing (also in Greenville) - large variety of Masters in nursing programs :)
