Hi all

im new to this forum and would appreciate any advice or suggestions to my questions please.

I am a new graduate RN, i dont have any experience but im planning to join the navy to work as a naval nurse.

Please i want to know if my inexperience will affect my plans?

Secondly, i love to be a naval nurse but i wouldnt like to work on a war zone, does navy nurses go to war zones?

How is their salary like now compare to the civilian?

I it true that one can make choice on the location he/she wants in the usa?.

please, i would appreciate your reply, suggestions, advices and encouragments....thank you:nurse:

Only you know your reason for wanting to join the Navy, but if you are not willing to go to a war zone, what is the point of being in the military?

You can check DFAS.mil for military pay tables.

I agree, no one wants to go but you have to be willing to go. No one gets the sit out their turn from what i've seen.

I'd question whether you really want in the armed forces, war is our business :D

You want to be in the military, but you don't want to go to war? The military fights wars. That's like wanting to be a nurse but not wanting to deal with a difficult patient...it's part of your job and its bound to happen. Of course, a nurse being sent to war isn't a frequent thing. Usually people volunteer for those so people who don't want to go don't end up having to. In the event that you do go, chances are you will be far away from the real war fighting.

As for the salary, it is competitive to civilian pay. Do a search for officer pay charts. You get base pay, housing allowance, possibly a bonus, etc.

As for duty stations, you can make a choice but it doesn't mean you will get it. In the Navy it is always "the needs of the Navy" over the needs of the sailor. That means you could pick something like San Diego, but if it's not where the Navy needs you then you can bet you won't be going there...unless you know somebody up high or have family members with disabilities.

If you have any other questions just ask. The Navy has it's ups and downs, but in the end it is a GREAT choice.
