Navy Nurse First Duty/ODS/Relocation 2013

Hello to all Navy NCP students! I am graduating in two months and finally got an email from Bethesda that I can now contact detailer for ODS dates and first duty station. I cannot believe it takes so long to find out where I will be stationed. I was told that I need to only choose from three big Navy hospitals; however, by reading older post, it seems like I still could be sent to other places. Please keep in touch and let me know if any of you get any word from *****. I will too:)

Sw88tpea,

So the sponsor helps with the task of settling in and getting everything sent (belongings and paperwork) to the first duty station? I haven't been told about my sponsor yet, I will contact my recruiter again. Also, since you are very resourceful are there any sources of information you recommend or wish someone told you as a junior officer? Thank you! :-)

Think of your sponsor (minimally) as your tour guide day one. They will tell you what to wear, show you where to get your orders stamped, they will show you to the 15+ offices you have to stop by when you first get in, where to park, introduce you to your boss, etc.

They may also give you suggestions on living arrangements, places to go out etc. They are still working a full time on the unit, so keep it in mind.

I did not receive my sponsor information until week 4/6 at ODS (I would be surprised if you were to get this info prior to ODS because you're not 'counted' until you arrive, because your arrival date can change). I was able to make a few phone calls to them prior to arriving at my duty station. They helped me with my first two days on base and then I was on my own for the most part.

There are a lot of resources to help you out. When you have your stuff packed out put the 'number you call to get it back' in your phone! Each base has a Housing Association that can help you out. Fleet and family services have temporary belongings you can rent if needed etc.

I'm happy to keep in contact and offer suggestions as you need them. :-)

I don't have Linkedin, but I have a facebook. If someone were to create a facebook group for the ODS May group so we could connect and share stuff I would totally join.

Hello ODS May attendees!

Although I said I was taking a social media break, I went and created an open group on Facebook for those interested in connecting with others attending ODS at the same time. It's titled: ODS May 2013. Depending on where we are all going to be stationed we could share housing information, find potential roommates and generally get to know one another prior to the May start. Hope to see all of you there; GO Navy!! :-)

I believe they will house us according to company, sex, and last name. I will join up when I get to my cpu.

Yep, for ODS I believe you're correct. I think she was talking about the post-ODS housing search though. :)

I wonder if there's any way to find out what company we'll be in before we arrive? You know, for letter-mailing purposes... or more to-the-point, letter receiving purposes. ;)

Hey there! I will be in the May ODS as well!

Where is this fb page. I can't find it. I will also be attending the May ODS class

Hello there!

If you type "May ODS 2013" in the FB search it should show up. I also recommend typing in "Navy officer development school" on FB. There's a large community online and lots of information given if you look at past posts. Hope that helps and see you online! :-)

Sorry is actually "ODS May 2013" that you'll type in on FB search. I apologize for the typo.

i am going in a few days as well... email me [email protected]

Hey bfrei! I'm new to this so I still don't know how to PM message but ill be reporting to bethesda on may 12th. Also I'll be attending the April ODS class. I contacted the person I believe is in charge of the sponsor program there (LT Aberlin) about a month ago and she said she will submit my name and once I am assigned a sponsor they will contact me. I was hoping to hear from them before I left for ODS. Does the sponsor assignments usually take this long? And how important/what is the role of a sponsor? Thanks!
