Navy Nurse First Duty/ODS/Relocation 2013

Hello to all Navy NCP students! I am graduating in two months and finally got an email from Bethesda that I can now contact detailer for ODS dates and first duty station. I cannot believe it takes so long to find out where I will be stationed. I was told that I need to only choose from three big Navy hospitals; however, by reading older post, it seems like I still could be sent to other places. Please keep in touch and let me know if any of you get any word from *****. I will too:)

Congrats! I'm a current Navy RN and regarding places you go to, you can always ask to go somewhere else if you have something in mind. The worst he would say is, no. If they need someone there they might take you. Good luck!

Hi Aketamax - I was able to speak to **** Friday and was tentatively given San Diego. I echo Sw88tpea's comments about asking for where you want to go. I know another new grad that got something other than what was offered because of asking. Good luck!

San Diego is where I'm trying to go as well. My wife is active duty and stationed there, so I'm 99.9% sure that's what I'll get...preferably at NMCSD.

HM2Doc - It sounds like you have a pretty good shot at NMCSD. I think they may have saved some slots for NCP'ers and I assume you are already on the west coast? But you never know. Hopefully you can talk with him on Monday!

Did you really spoke with detailer on Friday? I thought we need to email him first and then wait a week and then call...did you call instead of sending email? San Diego will be a dream! I actually traveled to all three biggest hospitals in 2012 and really enjoyed my visit at San Diego. Good Luck! Did you get ODS date yet?

I emailed him and then he called me a few hours later. He didn't give me a date for ODS as everything depends on when you pass the NCLEX, but he did say that it would probably be Jul or Aug.

I graduate at the end of April, so I really hope I don't have to wait until Jul or Aug for ODS. There is a class around May 12th, but that may be too soon. Hopefully I can get a June class.

Oh I don't graduate until the end of May and he was basing my ODS date on if I took the NCLEX the first week of June and then said that I would probably be in the Jul class. But it was all hypothetical because I don't really know yet when I will be taking the NCLEX and my state is not always the fastest at posting results. I just have some family basing some vacation plans on my ODS graduation date so I was trying to get a sense of when it might be. HM2Doc, I would expect that you would go long before Aug.
