Hi there!
It has been a while since I posted. I am almost half way through finishing up some prereqs for GWCC and NAU CEP.
I will need to take BIO 205 (micro), pathophysiology, and nutrition this fall so I can apply to the CEP in Feb 2015. As of right now I can apply to Maricopa nursing once I take the HESI A2 which I am studying for. I meet all Gateway's prereq requirements right now.
I have taken CHM 130, PSY 240, and am finishing up BIO 202...all through Rio. I did well in the PSY and CHM class but BIO I am just hoping for a B. The tests have proven to be BRUTAL even though I study using the study guide.
So my question...these last 3 prereqs, should I continue Rio (for convenience of online since I work) or are any of these classes better elsewhere? BIO 205, pathophys, and nutrition can all be taken at Rio but if any of them are like BIO 202 that makes me nervous. I have a C in BIO 201, and my ENG grades were not great from so long ago when I was a young naïve freshmen I want to do the best I can on these exisiting prereqs to pull up that GPA as much as possible for the NAU CEP. I got a B in CHM lecture and A in lab, PSY 240 an A, Trigonometry a B, and Stats a B. Oh, I have a B.S. in speech and hearing science and an M.Ed. So advice on where is best to take these classes but perhaps online still, or I would possibly be able to do a night class, that would be good to know!
Thank you in advance!!
And, I would assume that since you hold two degrees that you are likely over 5 years out from high school graduation. I had to take both intro BIO and intro Chem because I was told that my high school courses could not be over 5 years old to be given credit as a pre req. That is another reason I am sure I never submitted my high school transcript, because none of my courses or grades would have mattered anymore anyway.
ok now I'm worried that I have been getting wrong information! Yes I am much more than 5 years out of high school so obviously I don't even care about them counting anything from high school at all, I've already taken care of CHM, just finished it recently and am in bio 202 right now. When I met with the first advisor who was helpful in the spring I told her that some of the prereqs that I had taken that they want are older and she assured me that didn't matter at all and I even asked again and said okay so you are sure? I want to make sure that will be counted and I don't have to retake them and she said no no not at all. She even looked at my transcripts from my last colleges and saw the dates I had taken them and said they were fine. I am really hoping there isn't another snag now. I do have a copy of my high school diploma I just can't access the transcript because they closed down and they are a private school. That said I looked up other colleges today even NAU and if you are a transfer student they don't even require a high school transcript if you already have an associates or above because that proves you I graduated high school at some point and it was verified. I can't help but feel like the advisor just wanted me to go away and not bother applying or something.
Sorry, I don't mean to sound so negative about this I just felt so discouraged after I hung up with the advisor at Gateway yesterday. I chose them for two reasons, I hear they have a great reputation for their nursing program and secondly they offer the evening nursing program which works well for me and would allow me to work at least part time to help support my family while I go back to school. After this experience I'm honestly considering applying to some of the other community colleges instead who offer the CEP. I really hope I hear back from the head of Admissions though and this is resolved.
@scubagirl16 I know this post is from last year, but I just submitted my application for the NAU/GWCC CEP fast track program last week. We are supposed to find out on Feb 20th if we got accepted. I would love to hear about the program and how the first block went. I am hoping to get evening classes, but traditional will work if I can't. I hope you have some time to respond. :)
Congrats on getting in!!

So far both my block 1 and block 2 I have had amazing teachers. I am in the traditional day class. Block 1 was an eye opener. It is a lot of hard work and group projects and I felt I was at school everyday, but when its over you will be closer to your fellow students. For block 2 it seems a lot less of the busy work and you have a lot more time to study. Let me know if I can do anything. It is very exciting when you get the letter of acceptance.
@scubagirl thanks for that info... That makes me a little nervous about block one, but still so excited for it. Knowing block 2 is a little better will help me push through. How was your schedule for the first block? How is it for the second block?
Also another question, for the GWCC classes do we enroll in those on our own or do the advisors donut for us? I was looking at the GWCC website to get an idea of times and stuff and I noticed there were a few different times and days for a couple of the classes. Some have 3 days where'd others only had 2. I was just curious how all that worked out. Any info would help!!
Hello there, block 1 schedule the first 7 weeks we more than 3 days after that I believe we went 3 days. Every semester is different and it is not the same as what you see on line. I believe that is a rough idea of the times. Block 2 is about twice a week, the times are all different. Once your in the program they will give you a to-do list that needs to be done. They have it all mapped out for you and walk you through it. It is a great program, but takes hard work on your part.

I don't remember being asked for my high school transcript. I am currently a nursing student going into block 2 and have never even submitted a request for a transcript from my high school. I believe all I did was show them a copy of my highs school diploma. Unless I consented at some point for them to request one from my high school directly without realizing it. Def try to speak with someone else because I seriously don't remember ever submitting a transcript, just my diploma.
