You should apply for the MCCCD regular admittance ASAP (read as should have already done that). Basically as a backup plan, and because you need to be admitted to the waitlist before you can go to an info session and application session for the CEP programs. Then if you don't get admitted through CEP, you will already be on the waitlist for the regular admittance. From what I hear, the CEP program is getting more popular, but not as competitive as a direct BSN only program so a few grade fumbles won't kill your chances. A good majority of those who have been applying have been getting in.
To answer your RIO question. For patho, take it at RIO in the 8 week format. This may sound terrible, but it is a very easy A as all tests are online with nothing proctored. My instructor even said that everything is open book. The workload isn't too bad. Similar to the BIOs with essays and stuff, but its not double just because its an 8 week. There's just a lot more reading each week. As for BIO 205, I am currently taking that at RIO and it is just as bad as BIO 202 at RIO. The test questions seem like they are pulled out of thin air because even if you follow the study guide and read the chapters, they are still ridiculously difficult/ And it will still have all the essay and lab and quiz requirements. Since you are having trouble with 202, it is likely you will have the same trouble with 205. I am taking it right now and I barely scraped by with a 71% on the midterm, and can only hope to pull off another C on the final to end with a low B. There is a good chance I will end with a C though because the second half of the semester has seemed harder to me than the first half. I have aced all the labs and essays. But the midterm was rough. So I would say to take BIO 205 on campus. A few friends stated that it was actually fun on campus and they learned better and the tests weren't too bad. 3 friends each took it at a different campus.
And nutrition through RIO isn't too bad. I got a B and it was due to not completing 2 assignments due to personal stuff. The material was pretty easy though and the tests were straight forward. You will have to work for it, but a good grade is definitely doable for that class.

Thank you mrsboots for the insight! I will plan on looking for BIO 205 outside Rio and probably take the nutrition and patho classes through Rio. I do plan to apply to Maricopa nursing ASAP... I am just preparing to take the HESI (I want to do well!) and then I can apply right after that. I will be relieved when all these prereqs are done!
How's the HESI?
Thank you scrubgirl!! Congrats on getting in the program and getting through the first classes :) I hope to be where you are this time next summer! I may do fast track as well.
I took Bo=io 205 and nutrition with the same teacher at Gateway He is a great teacher. I think you will have no problem getting into the CEP program just get the HESI done, apply, and go the the information session. I believe there is another information session at GWCC on Nov 6. Good luck and if you need anything just let me know. The hesi test is time consuming just take it one section at a time you will be fine.
I will consider that Tayrutherford.... problem is I can't logistically fit that in this fall since I am taking 3 already and work 32 hours a week. I think I will calculate my GPA for the courses they factor into that so I know where I am at. I figure if I don't make it in the first go around Feb 2015 application I can retake a few classes at that time and reapply in May.
Like another poster said, the HESI is time consuming, but its not too bad. The math is basic college level math. Mostly algebra with a little stats and basic geometry and such. If you are decent in Math then you should be fine. Also English, is what I considered more Highschool level. There is a lot of grammar checking of sentences and reading comprehension of paragraphs and such. Id compare it to our highschool exit exam. Just review the HESI packet that's given and you should do fine. I scored a 96 in math and a 92 in English on the first try without really studying. I am in no way tooting my own horn, just stating that it is not very difficult if you just focus, take your time, and try not to stress too much. GL
Well I am going to just share that I am feeling totally disheartened today after speaking to Gateway nursing dept. They want a copy of my HS transcript but my senior year I attended a private school that closed several years after. I have a copy of my diploma and I earned a B.S. and M.Ed from ASU. ASU verified my transcript back then when I was accepted or they would have never awarded me two degrees! I have called so many places trying to track my transcript down to no avail so far. Private schools are not required to keep records once they close. The advisor told me that it "doesn't matter" that I have two degrees from ASU and was quite rude to me. I felt pretty insulted. I am paying for my venture back to school on my own and sacrificing time with my family while taking these prereqs while working full time. I really hope this wasn't all a waste. I emailed the head of admissions for the school and explained my situation and sent a copy of my HS diploma. I hope to hear back The 1st nursing advisor I met with was helpful and when I told her that tracking down my HS transcript might be hard she said well just try your best, but did not make it sound like a deal breaker since I have other college degrees.

Hi there!
It has been a while since I posted. I am almost half way through finishing up some prereqs for GWCC and NAU CEP.
I will need to take BIO 205 (micro), pathophysiology, and nutrition this fall so I can apply to the CEP in Feb 2015. As of right now I can apply to Maricopa nursing once I take the HESI A2 which I am studying for. I meet all Gateway's prereq requirements right now.
I have taken CHM 130, PSY 240, and am finishing up BIO 202...all through Rio. I did well in the PSY and CHM class but BIO I am just hoping for a B. The tests have proven to be BRUTAL even though I study using the study guide.
So my question...these last 3 prereqs, should I continue Rio (for convenience of online since I work) or are any of these classes better elsewhere? BIO 205, pathophys, and nutrition can all be taken at Rio but if any of them are like BIO 202 that makes me nervous. I have a C in BIO 201, and my ENG grades were not great from so long ago when I was a young naïve freshmen
I want to do the best I can on these exisiting prereqs to pull up that GPA as much as possible for the NAU CEP. I got a B in CHM lecture and A in lab, PSY 240 an A, Trigonometry a B, and Stats a B. Oh, I have a B.S. in speech and hearing science and an M.Ed. So advice on where is best to take these classes but perhaps online still, or I would possibly be able to do a night class, that would be good to know!
Thank you in advance!!
