Nationwide Nurse Compact Act

Published

IMHO, there needs to be a NATIONWIDE Nurse Compact Act that would allow a nurse to practice in another state on her own state's license, for 90 days while awaiting her endorsement.

Of course, it will never happen because the states would lose $$$$$......:angryfire

You said a mouthful there!

How would the states lose dollars if the compact act only allowed for a 90 day temporary license? Eventually, that nurse would have to pay licensing fees to the new state, unless of course it was just a temporary assignment in a new state for less then 90 days and then moving on to a new state.

I don't know.

That's probably just what they would say about it, LOL

I forgot. One other thing, as frustrating and time consuming as the endorsement process may be....nurses should count themselves lucky. Nursing is one of the few professions that has a national standard with a licensing exam that is the same in all 50 states. At least nurses have the freedom to easily move from state to state without having to retake their boards....which often get harder and harder the longer one is out of school. Two examples: Attorneys...........the Bar exam includes a state specific section that usually needs to be retaken if an attorney should decide to move to a new state. Social Work: presently in the USA, there are four different "standard" social work licensing exams for social workers with an MSW degree: Master's/Intermediate, Advanced, Clinical, and California Clinical. If one takes the exam offerred in his/her state and then moves to a state that offers a different exam (especially if it is higher up the scale), one's previous license is worthless and there is no such thing as endorsement.
