Has anyone had any luck with applying at National University for their nursing program? I applied back in Oct 06 and have been waiting to hear from them. They are supposed to notify in 3 months. I have called and called and written email upon emails with no response really. Please, if anyone has applied and received some sort of letter, I would greatly appreciate your reply.

What kind of books did you guys use to help you study for the TEAS exam? Did you find that they helped a lot? I was looking into the Kaplan and McGraw books. They are both called Nursing School Entrance Exams. Thanks for your input in advance!

I used the Kaplan book and yes, it was helpful. It will also scare you if you don't know what you're looking for! The math it teaches is way more complex than what is on the TEAS test and there are none of those evil little analogy questions :wink2: What got me on the TEAS was the physical science. Know your basic chemistry, physics and earth science.

Thanks for the help Cheshcat!! My prerequisite GPA is much higher than I thought!! I just got the Kaplan book yesterday too. Looks very thorough, but better to be over-prepared than under!! What cohort did you say you got accepted into? January 2010?? I hope I can get pushed up into that one!

Hi there :) NU takes into consideration Microbiology, Anatomy, Physiology and Statistics for your prerequisite GPA. I don't know about you guys, but I took all of these classes (except statistics) at community college so it wasn't on the same scale that NU uses. The easiest way to figure out your weighted grade is by doing a search for a "Weighted GPA Calculator". There are tons of them online. Don't forget to include your lab units...

Micro Lecture = 4.5 units

Micro Lab = 1.5 units

Anatomy Lecture = 4.5 units

Anatomy Lab = 1.5 units

Physiology Lecture = 4.5 units

Physiology Lab = 1.5 units

Stats = 4.5 units

To do this by hand, multiply the units for each class by the grade you received. You know, "A" is worth 4 points, "B" is worth 3 points and so on. Add up the numbers for each of the prerequisite classes and divide by the total number of units. The total # of units is 22.5. It's the same for everybody :) Hope that makes sense!

To be honest, after seeing this post, I have become depressed. I realized my pre-req grade is a lot lower than I somehow thought it would be. My overall gpa is 3.3 but my pre-req grade is 2.2 if I had done my calculations correctly. I did get a 87% on my Teas but this post has made me skeptical of my chances in getting accepted now.

PS. From what I remember from the pre-nursing forum, 30% was based on your pre-req grade, 20% was based on if you passed all the pre-req classes in one try with a C or better, 30% was the essay, and 20% was the teas, please correct me if I am wrong. And Please Cheer me up !

Murse, I just got an email from my advisor saying that 50% is for prereqs and 50% is based on TEAS and essay. I am pretty sure the Nursing Forum further broke it down correctly. Don't worry! What you do not have in your prereqs you definitely make up for on your TEAS exam!!! Don't give up! :icon_hug:

Hi twilight_saturn!! Do you know how to calculate the 20% based on pre-reqs repetition? I had to repeat anatomy I plan on submitting my app first week of Aug. then study for the TEAS exam too.

Sorry banana...I have no clue how they do that. I have to wait to submit my app because I took a Credit by Exam for the ILR 260 course and I am waiting for my results. I hope they come in before the deadline. I am studying for the TEAS now. When did you take your first TEAS exam?

I haven't taken it yet... i have the McGraw one as my reviewer.. also, i'm currently taking lib. research class.. we'll be done in 2-3 weeks..

Ugh...I know how you feel. I missed the January deadline because my last advisor never told me that I could take a credit by exam for ILR :angryfire but now I have an awesome advisor! Hopefully we will both get into the April cohort!! BTW, when did you start your ILR class?
