Has anyone had any luck with applying at National University for their nursing program? I applied back in Oct 06 and have been waiting to hear from them. They are supposed to notify in 3 months. I have called and called and written email upon emails with no response really. Please, if anyone has applied and received some sort of letter, I would greatly appreciate your reply.
Thanks
ohhhh ok. thanks for clearing that up i see what you mean. i totally forgot about grants...i was thinking the cost of the school varied...not the loan amount. thanks guys!!!
Haha, no I completely meant differences varying on the grants you qualify and what you can pay out of pocket and your financial need...like someone cleared up for me..Diana? Not sure, but anyway, sorry for the bum info, I really am just trying to rely back everything I get from the financial aid dept. Honestly this is verging ridiculous, I have left emails, and calls to no avail. This is leaving a bad taste in my mouth. Finally started reading, Either the content is hard, or my brain has gone soft since I last took classes (almost two years ago), but it took me almost 2 hrs to read SEVEN pages. Then again my 16 month old is REALLY doing all in her power to make my studying that much harder!
Oh and that ILR class..is really in esence a joke. I gues you learn some useful things...How to do research for papers and find things in libraries, but mostly I found it to be full of bussy work, then a again I took it at the CC for a WHOLE semester, and in my opinion it was too much work for a one unit class. THe bright side? You are going to be fresh on all that APA format so your papers are going to be that much easier! Good luck everyone, I am so happy I came across this forum. I wonder what everyine else is doing? I mean how they are figuring this all out...
Harparia, thank you so much for the tip about Wells Fargo loan....I will definitely look into it. Is that they one you have used? If you don't mind me asking: how much did you find you had to borrow from private lenders for the entire program? :icon_roll I am not sure how far you are in the program....
Here's what I know.
Orientation is was a separate fee $1500. One month classes cost about $1200, if there is a clinical component add $650, and the two month classes cost $3,200 (not including books). So far, I haven't paid anything out of pocket for school, except for books. In regards to the orientation fee, you can wait. You may start racking up a $25 late fee, but that is supposed to be waived once the disbursement of financial aid kicks in.
Theory Classes are 4.5 quarter units, Clinical classes are 1.5 quarter units, altogether 6 quarter units will cost you $3,200 + books.
I didn't use the Medcap (I learned about it too late), but many of my fellow students have.
Subsidized loans give you $5,500. Unsubsidized loans max out at $7,000. On top of that you may need to come up with about $4000-$7000 per year in grants, scholarships and private loans. So, the short answer is you may need a an additional $8,000-$14,000 to cover tuition and books. Some people get more to help pay for living expenses so that they do not have to work so much while in the program. When it is all said and done, you can expect to be about $35,000-$40,000 in debt (that could go down depending on any pell grants or scholarships you get, or up if you take out loans for living expenses).
I hope that clarifies some things.
Harparia
Thanks, Harparia.... Yes, in my case it will be much more. Since I won't be working and my childcare cost alone is about $10,000 a year (which is $20,000 cost while I am at school for the next 2 yrs) Plus, I need money for living expenses.... So, upon my graduation, my debt will probably be more like $65,000-$75,000... Yes, I have come to terms with that already....
ok my head is spinning from reading all of this... all this financial aid talk makes me feel like i'm kinda screwed. i just got my fafsa results back and i don't qualify for aid. i have a good GPA though so i am going to try and see if i can qualify for Cal grants... but yeah, i am just so overwhelmed with all of this... :angryfire
You should qualify at least for Loans, if not grants... Plus, due to your age, you are considered "dependant" for financial aid purposes. Shouldn't that make you eligible for aid? Unless you parents make too much....
yeah nope...they "make too much." not to mention i'll be living with them through nursing school so they look at that too i'm sure. ARRGGHHin better news i am at NU right now and just set up my PDA (iTouch) with the unbound medicine program and it is pretty cool. :) :)
Too bad... (about fin/aid)... But great! (about PDA) :) So, by signing up at the school, you somehow avoid paying $160 for "nursing central"? That's the one you got, right?
question: everyone must have a PDA or some kind of phone to upload some program? Is that right? What do they tell you in orientation. I mean its from like 8:30 - 4!!! thanks..im starting the program in july!
I don't think it's a requirement to have a platform to upload the programs. Those programs are available online and can be accessed from any computer at the clinical facility. At least that's what I understood from the info at the orientation. PDA or phone or ipod is just something that is convenient to have on hand for immediate access to the programs. Someone please correct me if I am wrong...
