National University Fresno BSN

Hi All,

Waiting to see if I'm accepted for BSN Program @ National Fresno Campus. Cohort 18. Should find out mid December, but that seems sooooo far away. Anybody else in this limbo right now??

I called him last night...5pm on the dot. He said they are sending out notifications this morning. Yay!! I hope you make it :)

I'm happy for you FiresWifey! I got the email that I was an alternate so either I start April or October next year. I could not use private message yet.

Hi,

I am interested in National University Nursing program. For those who got in, can you guys let me know your GPA, TEAS scores, and essay score for your cohort? I think I am going to get an overall 3.2 GPA if I don't repeat my A&P I because I got a C in it. We only get 3 tries, so I would like to know before I risk my 3 tries by applying with a GPA that isn't competitive enough.

Hi Big_Mac06,

I got in as an alternate (22nd out of 96 who applied) in Cohort 18. GPA: 3.63, Essay: 3/5, TEAS: 92.7%. If you could retake A&P, re-take it so you could get a higher chance of getting in. Also, take the TEAS test at PSI (Fresno & Barstow) since you can keep re-taking it until you get the highest score you can get without risking your 3 applications. That's what I did when I didn't get in Cohort 16. It's a little more expensive taking the TEAS at PSI, but worth it since you schedule the test date yourself and not risking your application

Thank you so much for the advice! I will definitely retake my A&P I now that I know that it is just as competitive as CSUFresno.

You're welcome!

Hi,

I was wondering for those who are about done with the program, how much in student loans do you owe? I had got in Fresno City College RN program and is doing an estimate to see which would be a better route to go. Fresno City College average cost should be around $7,000-8,000 in 2 years, but we will still have to go on and get our bachelor's (another year). I know with National, it is 22 months and whatever GE we aren't done yet, but can you guys let me know about how much you guys owe in student loan debt if you don't mind?

Hi Big_Mac06,

According to pre-nursing orientation that I attended last year, nursing program cost is $45,000 not including the books and orientation fee when you get accepted. My cohort started April 2017 and is going to graduate February next year. I currently owe about 29,000 since I took 6 pre-requisite courses at National University. Some students owe a little more if they don't get pell grant. Some students get private student loan if they are not able to get financial aid. Amount you really have to pay back depends on the financial aid you get. A Nursing degree is an investment no matter how much you have to pay for it. My advice is do not base which school you are going to according to how long and how much you have to pay. If you can study fast-paced since our classes are usually 1 or 2 months per subject or course, go to National University. If you prefer semesters, Fresno City College is better.

Thank you for giving your perspective on my decision to which school I should attend. I agree with you that I shouldn't base it upon how soon and how much is nursing school. I was basing it upon that at first because I had the fear of student loans debt that I always hear people taking about. They always say that you don't want to be stuck with student loans. Another thing was that I was worried about how soon I should get done because I am turning 25 years old this year, and I regretted I am not done with my nursing journey by this age already. But yeah, you're right about everything you've said. It really depends on how I like my classes (semester or month to month).

Yes, you don't want to be stuck with student loans, but as long as you finish nursing school and not get into drugs or gambling you'll be able to pay it off once you get a nursing job. New graduate nurses start at $28/hr and more if you work night shift and weekends. It took me awhile to get into nursing program also and turning 29 this year. I have classmates that are in their 40s so don't feel bad.
