Hello all-

I applied for the NHSC loan repayment program in late January of this year and I just got an email asking me to accept or decline an offer to participate in the program! I'm thinking this is a good sign I will be getting the money for repayment. Just wondering if other applicants have received notification yet. My site score is a 17 and I have a LOT of debt so this will be a Godsend if it all works out.

I received my NHSC letter 6/25 and it is still under review! Has yours been finalized (countersigned) yet? I called BCRS and they agreed it was taking an unusually long time to get my contract countersigned! I would love to hear if you have heard back!

Yes I heard back 7/24 from NHSC with an official contract. Hopefully you will hear back soon!

How do they issue the funds?

Love to know more about this journey. Still paying off the BSN and I want to move so not sure if I have to contract to a specific place before acceptance or if its open post graduation?

How do they issue the funds?

I believe they issue the funds in a lump sum at the beginning of the contract period. My contract officially started 7/24 so I'm thinking a deposit for $50k should be made soon.

There are two programs for the NHSC. Loan repayment after you graduate and a students-to-service program. I'm not that familiar with the student-to-service program but I believe you commit while still in school and they send you to an NHSC site after you graduate. There is also the Nurse corps and state loan repayment program.

The NHSC LRP program deposits the funds 90 days after the contract is countersigned. Mine was countersigned Aug 1st! Phew.

Trying to decide if I should:

Pay off the highest interest loans first

Disperse the money evenly to every loan in hopes to avoid monthly payments

Put the money into a interest bearing account to make my monthly payments.

Any thoughts?

Definitely pay the highest interest rate one first. But if short term liquidity, meaning you don't have some cash laying around to pay off at least the minimum payment in one of the loans, then yes, of course disperse it, better than failing to make a payment. But math wise, paying off the one with the highest interest rate is the best thing to do.
